Nicolas Cage Movies

Want to know the best Nicolas Cage movies?  How about the worst Nicolas Cage movies?  Curious about Nicolas Cage’s box office grosses or which Nicolas Cage movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Nicolas Cage movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

When I first started writing movie pages, one of the first actors I picked (my oldest son’s suggestion) was Nicolas Cage.  Nicolas Cage (1964-) has been starring in movies for over thirty-five years.  During those years he has starred in many box office hits and has picked up two Best Actor Oscar® and four Golden Globe® nominations.  He won the Best Actor Oscar® for his role in Leaving Las Vegas (1995).  The last few years have seen most of his movies go straight to DVD…beginning to wonder if he will ever get back to his glory days.

His IMDb page shows over 100 acting credits since 1981. This page will rank Nicolas Cage movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts and cameos were not included in the rankings. His straight to home entertainment movies have a separate table that looks at 10 of his movies.

Nicolas Cage Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Sort Nicolas Cage movies by co-stars of his movies
  • Sort Nicolas Cage movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort Nicolas Cage movies by adjusted worldwide box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)  *** If domestic & worldwide grosses are the same…then worldwide gross is unknown
  • Sort Nicolas Cage movies how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie.
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each Nicolas Cage movie received.
  • Sort Nicolas Cage movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score.  UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

  1. Being a writer myself, my favorite Cage films are the lesser known “Red Rock West” and “Lord of War.” The scripts for these films seem tailor-made for Cage. He can do two things exceedingly well. One is to convey a sense of utter futility and the other is to portray a deadpan sense of distance from upheavals in his life.

His most dramatic work in “Leaving Las Vegas is so good it’s almost un-watchable. I thought Elisabeth Shue’s performance was also Oscar worthy, but that’s Hollywood for you.

“Matchstick Men” is also a standout.

    1. Thanks for the comment rjbatty….sorry it took so long to respond back. Glad to see someone else likes Red Rock West…easily one of his really good movies that has been forgotten in time. I also agree with you about Leaving Las Vegas….but not a movie that you want to watch again. And finally I have had a crush on Elisabeth Shue since her teenage days(I was a teenager too)…and agree she deserved an Oscar as well.

  2. Moonstruck is one of my all-time favorite movies. Sometimes Nic Cage can be so brilliant and sometimes I can’t believe how ridiculous his movies are. Face Off? Come on; how did that movie score so highly?! But at least he can laugh at himself. Did you see him on Saturday Night Live recently doing a skit with the guy who impersonates him? Pretty funny stuff.

    1. Hey DeborahNeyens…Moonstruck is one of my favorites as well….as for FaceOff…as crazy and farfetched that it is…it was a huge hit at the box office and critics and audiences loved it…which is why it got ranked so high…I am with you…as I never really liked the movie. I will have to check out his recent SNL appearance…thanks for the information.

  3. Word is if it wasn’t for Nick we might not have known Johnny Depp. Thank you Nicolas Cage for suggesting your friend Johnny look into acting!!:)

  4. I do like Nicholas Cage a lot, but as has already been said, he does appear in some truly awful films. My favourite is Raising Arizona, although the National Treasure films were good fun too.

    1. Hey Judi Bee….thanks for checking out my Nicolas Cage…his career seems to be going in the Michael Caine directional path….huge success early in his career….then a run of horrible movies that starts to end his leading man status….and a turn to character/supporting roles….I think Cage might be about to start his supporting role career….unless of course he makes another National Treasure soon.
