Nicole Kidman Movies

Want to know the best Nicole Kidman movies?  How about the worst Nicole Kidman movies?  Curious about Nicole Kidman box office grosses or which Nicole Kidman movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Nicole Kidman movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

Nicole Kidman (1967-) is an Oscar® winning Australian-American actress.  In many ways it is shocking to realize that she was first noticed in 1988’s Dead Calm and became a star in 1990’s Days of Thunder….which means her days as a movie star are closing in on 30 YEARS already!    Nicole Kidman’s IMDb page shows over 99 acting credits since 1983. This page will rank Nicole Kidman movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, her early Australian movies and movies that were not released in North American theaters were not included in the rankings.  To do well in our overall rankings a movie has to do well at the box office, get good reviews by critics, be liked by audiences and get some award recognition.

Drivel part of the page:  When we first starting writing these pages on Hub Pages back in 2011….we admit…we pretty much ignored actresses.  Well this Nicole Kidman page is the 99th page that has featured an actress….which means the next actress will be our 100th actress page.  That is still less than actors but at least the tally is started to get respectable.

  1. Added Steve’s Nicole Kidman You Tube Video. Added a new table to this page. Added in a new photo for the top part of page. Edited some text to fix errors. Fixed some SEO issues with the page. And added in my comment on Steve’s video and her movies.

“Good video pick. I think she is getting better as she gets older. I have seen almost al of these movies. I have missed #29 Portrait of a Lady (even with Bale in it….have not seen it), #26 Destroyer (pretty new…will see it soon) and #10 Flirting…never seen this movie on any place I could watch it. So that is 37 seen 3 missed…and I am not a huge Kidman fan…imagine if I was. So let’s talk about the ones I have seen. Dogville number two? Probably because many have not seen it….it is visually interesting….but what a downer of an ending. #3 Moulin Rouge is one of the few musicals that I actually like. As for number one? The Hours is a one and done movie for me…2 hours of watching depressed people. #12 Killing of a Sacred Deer…..weird weird movie. #32 Days of Thunder…the most enjoyable of the Kidman/Cruise movies…but still very very silly. Her movies with Caine and Willis are at the bottom…Billy Bathgate has some good scenes…Bedazzled is just bad. #36 The Upside was actually pretty good…WoC loved that…and had me add it to the DVD collection….a movie that professional critics disliked…but the public loved….it had incredible legs at the box office…even crossing $100 million in North America…….it’s final gross was almost 5 times the amount of it’s opening weekend….3.1 multiplier is about normal. Final thoughts: Did not like Aquaman at all…..though Kidman was fine in the movie. The Peacemaker was not a good vehicle for her….action and Kidman…nope. Two favorite Kidman roles….those found in To Die For and Dead Calm. Voted up and shared.”

    1. Hi Bruce, nearly missed your epic post, cheers dude. 37 watched out of 40 is excellent, I’ve seen 22, Flora 4. I’ll keep a watch out for The Upside when it pops up on cable. I’ve read about Dogville and it’s shock ending. My sources seem to like it a lot. I think I’ll skip it. Thanks for the comment, vote and share, always appreciated.

    1. HI STEVE When I was growing up in the 1950s my local cinema was called The Castle and as they had the contract to show all the latest Paramount movies that’s where I watched all the Ladd films.

Living in the private house ímmediately next door to The Castle was a real tiny dwarf called Alfie. He never worked but just stood outside whistling and chatting to the passers by when they started to form a queue for the cinema. I of course saw a lot of him on my trips to the Castle and when I got inside Laddie seemed like a giant by comparison to me a small boy of about 12 years of age!

The mega pop star from Belfast where I live, Van Morrison, sang about The Castle and Alfie in his hit A Sense of Wonder, which was about Belfast and íts nearby towns

On and on and on and on we kept singing our song
      Over Newtonards and Comber,
      Gransha and the Ballystockart Road.

Didn’t I come to bring you a sense of wonder?
Didn’t I come to lift your fiery vision bright?
Didn’t I come to bring you a sense of wonder in the flame?

Wee Alfie at the Castle Picturehouse on the Castlereagh Road
Whistling on the corner next door
Where he kept Johnny Mack Brown’s horse

Van’s reference to Johnny Mack Brown’s horse derives from the fact that in the 40s and early 50s Johnny Mack made droves of B westerns and The Castle would endlessly regurgitate them so that there was virtually always one showing -eg Law of the Panhandle, West of Wyoming, Colorado Ambush, Short Grass, Stampede, Back Trail etc.

Hence we kids had two standing jokes about where Johnny’s horse stayed when the cinema closed (1) as mentioned by Van, Alfie kept the horse (2) it was Kept in the restrooms of The Castle. Ah nostalgia- Alfie stood outside in the sunshine, whistling as usual, that summer night long ago in 1953 when I queued at The Castle for Chuck’s western Arrowhead!

      1. Hey Bob….good thoughts on Nicole Kidman and on The Castle. 16 Kidman movies ranked..I have seen them all except for Portrait of a Lady. The Secret In Their Eyes is pretty weak when compared to the original version. I agree with you on Eyes Wide Shut…..everytime I watch that Kubrick movie…I end up playing a game of “count the Christmas trees”. Good stuff.

        1. HI BRUCE As I spent half of my young life in The Castle I see my Castle post as [albeit on a very mini scale] complementary to those wonderful recollections of The Tiger.

Therefore I have copied that post and this one to the excellent Tiger page, and indeed for me the link is strengthened by the fact that Laddie was a big part of my Castle years and a Ladd poster [for Drum Beat] is included with the original Tiger material. However if you wish the Tiger page to be retained exclusively for stuff related to just that cinema please remove my additional posts from the Tiger page.

The Castle is still there, its original general structure both inside and outside unchanged except for the removal of the seats and the shell being used as a high grade furniture store. About 5 minutes away from The Castle there is a street corner officially called “John Long’s Corner” a famous Belfast landmark named after some local hero of the previous century. My Ladd-fan pals and I used to meet-up there, linger for a brief discussion and then mosey up to The Castle – as often as not to watch a Ladd movie!

Even in those young years we were aware of the innuendos about Laddie’s shortness of stature that floated around. However we simply laughed at them and indeed for our own private amusement we light-heartedly re-nicknamed that famous Belfast corner “Long Ladd’s Corner!.” Bet you even Steve never realised what a talking point Laddie’s height has been down the years!

PS I agree with you about Secret in their Eyes – awful movie in fact.

    1. Hi Bob, thanks for the comments, review, generous rating, info and trivia, much appreciated. Glad you liked the posters and stills.

You’ve seen a lot of Nicole Kidman movies, more than I expected. There are 4 in your list I’ve missed. I haven’t seen To Die For in ages, Malice too. She can play the femme fatale very well.

The Paperboy is worth a look, in one scene Kidman as trailer trash in short skirts tells young Zac Efron “If anyone’s gonna pee on you it’s gonna be me!” (after he was stung by jellyfish).

No 10 out of 10s in Kidman’s filmography from my sources, there is a 9 – Dogville. Several scored 8 out of 10 including Moulin Rouge, The Hours and The Others.

Top rated at IMDB is Dogville, no.1 at Rotten Tomatoes is Paddington.

“It was actually an extraordinary reaction for To Die For (1995 at Cannes). We were not in competition, and I remember being terribly scared that people were gonna hate it, but people loved it. That was very, very instrumentally beginning my career in terms of serious film-making. The critics got behind me on that film and that kind of took me from being Tom Cruise’s wife into being something different, which artistically was such a joy for me.”

“It’s so bizarre, I’m not scared of snakes or spiders. But I’m scared of butterflies. There is something eerie about them. Something weird!”

      1. Hey Steve….her role in The Paperboy is probably her riskiest role yet. Now that is a strange movie without a doubt. What a cast…and what crazy things they agreed to do on screen. Paddington got great reviews from critics and good reviews from audiences….it is a surprisingly entertaining movie.
