Our Worst Movies Of 2024

In 2024, I watched 620 movies. Though, I am sure over the year, I forgot a few movies to add to my Letterboxd.com account.  About a sixth of those movies were ones released in 2024.  The death of RedBox seems to have hurt the amount of new movies I watched in 2024.  The following are the 10 2024 movies I enjoyed the least.  These movies are listed in alphabetical order.

Four old friends get together for wedding in an exotic location. This is pretty much a senior citizen version of Bridesmaids. It is not especially funny. It is not especially unique. It is not especially fun to watch. This Fab Four is a bust even with some serious talent in the movie.

Has there ever been a good Garfield movie? In my opinion the answer is no. Well, this Garfield movie is no exception. The animation is ok. The story is very weak. Movie has limited humor. At best the this is an average movie.

I guess this is the 6th Ghostbuster movie. I really liked Afterlife, so I had somewhat high hopes for this one. I have to say, I was somewhat disappointed in this movie. Dan Aykroyd is the best thing in the movie. Paul Rudd, who I really like, seems miscast in the top billed role. Bill Murray comes across as sad versus funny this time around. The story is ok at best. Final thought: Good enough to be an average movie.

Wow….this franchise is not very memorable. As I started watching this movie, I had to stop it and look up all the movies that came before. I have seen all of them, I just barely remember any of them. In this one Kong is in “Hollow World”. Godzilla is in “Our World”. They each fight their own battles until the end of the movie when they are both in the same worlds. That pretty much explains the last movie too. There is a subplot about Rebecca Hall and her adopted daughter. Dan Stevens and Brian Tyree Henry are the comic relief. Movie ends up almost exactly where it started. Final thought: Kong is cool. Godzilla is wasted. Stevens is fun. Hall’s storyline bored me. Uneven film that I am already forgetting.

The fourth Kung Fu Panda movie is by far the weakest of the bunch, and I did not really like part 3 at all. This one is essentially a combo of the Kung Fu Panda movies, Zootopia and the Fast & Furious movies. We get Jack Black again, he ends up going to the big city with a sly fox and all the villains for previous movies end up being allies in this movie. In the end, this was a very forgettable movie and comes across as a cash grab movie.

I liked My Spy. It was one of those supposed to be released into theaters but because of Co-Vid, it was released on a streaming service. In the blink of an eye, part 2 is here. Dave Bautista is the star. This time around he is the “trying way too hard stepdad”. Chloe Coleman is the step daughter. Like Bautista’s character this one seems to try too hard to be a laugh a minute movie. Almost all the jokes fall flat. Bautista’s character is turned into a joke. The supporting cast is given little to do. Final thought: A weak sequel.

Ever want to watch a movie revolving around a haunted pool? Then Night Swim is the movie you have been waiting for. Wyatt Russell plays a former baseball player trying to deal with a MS illness. They move into a new house that has a swimming pool that cures illnesses and kills people. Movie is not as dumb as it sounds, but it is still not a very good movie. Maybe the next haunted swimming pool movie will be better.

As I watched part two of this franchise, I kept thinking, did I watch this one already? It almost seemed like the same movie as part one. It is still basically a combo of Star Wars and the Seven Samuri. Neither ripoff is done well. The first hour of the movie is a setup for the battle between the poor defenseless villagers and the evil stormtroopers. Because, Sofia Boutella, as our kick ass female hero character, is on the side of the villagers the battle is not even close. I mean, they did train the villagers for a few days to become the greatest army ever! This one is dumb from beginning to end. I do not look forward to seeing Part Three.

I thought the first Strangers movie was creepy and good. This chapter is the first of a proposed three. The heroes of the movie are some of the dumbest in horror movie history…and that is saying a lot. I know people that actually liked this movie, but I do not agree with them. This is just a silly dumb horror movie.

This was one of the worst movies I watched in 2024. Like almost half of the original Netflix movies, you get a kick ass woman lead character. This time around, Jessica Alba is the badass. The plot revolves the death of her father in a small town. Nothing about this movie is very good. The story is just dumb. The action scenes are boring. Speaking of boring, it seems that is how the actors are feeling in their scenes. Final thought: A bad movie.
