  1. I have seen three Ralph Fiennes movies.

In order of preference, they are:

    The English Patient – favourite
    Quiz Show
    Maid in Manhatten

    1. Thanks for commenting on our Ralph Fiennes page. Tally count: Cogerson 34, Steve 25, bob cox 19 and Flora 3. I have seen all of the ones you have seen. I would switch The English Patient with Quiz Show in my rankings. Good stuff as always.

  2. I’ve seen 25 of the 47 films on the list. Favorites include – In Bruges, Skyfall, Spectre, The Hurt Locker, Prince of Egypt, Lego Batman Movie, Lego Movie 2, Curse of the Were-rabbit, Strange Days, Grand Budapest Hotel, the Hairy Potter series, Clash of the Titans, Wrath of the Titans, Legend of the Titans, Dawn of the Titans and Orgy of the Titans.

I have Schindler’s List on DVD but it’s not a film I watch often. Fiennes was a memorable villain who shoots Jewish prisoners for fun or for target practice, and I think he also had a Jewish girlfriend? The banality of evil I think they called it.

I liked him as M in the current Bonds. He could have been a decent Bond himself 20 years ago, he has a cold cruel look about him. But playing John Steed in the disastrous The Avengers (1998) scuppered his chances methinks.

Missing from the trivia box – his younger brother Joseph Fiennes is an actor too.

    Nice work Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve….thanks for sharing your movie thoughts on Ralph Fiennes. Tally count: Tally count. Cogerson 34, Steve 25, bob cox 19 and Flora 3. I am surprised I have seen 75% of his movies. Not thinking I had seen that many of his movies. Here are my reviews of the 12 Fiennes movies I have seen since 2014. https://letterboxd.com/cogerson/tag/ralph-fiennes/films/

I have seen all of your favorites except for Curse of the Were-Rabbit. And some of those Titan movies I have not heard of before…lol. I agree his role in Schlinder’s List is very very memorable….”banality of evil” is a great way to describe it. I like your thinking about him being a good Bond. His The Avengers is one of the movies that I have missed seeing….which is surprising since it also stars Sean Connery. Good point about missing trivia. I will add that nugget to the list. Good stuff as always.

  3. I saw 19 including 11 of top 13. 10 and favorite:schindlers list. 10 not favorite: the English patient. 9 and favorite : Spielberg. 9s not favorites: skyfall, hp:goblet of fire, halfblood prince, deathly hallows1, the reader, the constant gardener. hidden gems: the reader, the constant gardener.

    1. Hey bob cox. Tally count. Cogerson 34, Steve 25, you 19 and Flora 3. I have seen every movie you rated in your comment. Pretty much agree with your ratings. Schlinder’s List is a 10….but not a movie I have ever re-watched. I guess it is time to rewatch that one. Good stuff as always.

  4. The King’s Man has been pushed back to September 18, 2020.

Ralph (pronounced Rafe?) is # 539 on the Oracle of Bacon Top 1000 though he seems to have as many connections as Christopher Lloyd. He never worked with Michael Caine!

    1. Hey Dan. Thanks for the information on the delayed release on the King’s Man. I have fixed that in all the places I had it listed on UMR. I agree, Ralph’s list seems at least as long as Lloyd’s list. Lots of Harry Potter links on both lists, but especially on the first one. 38 Oscar winning co-winning co-stars is a very good total. As always your comments bring a wealth of knowledge to this page. Greatly appreciate your efforts.

  5. 1/On top of his hefty big screen career Ralph has (1) appeared in 6 TV productions between 1990 and 2014 (2) made 2 video games in 2005 and 2007 (3) acted in 33 stage presentations between 1985 and 2018.

2/IMDB credits him with 41 acting awards and 103 nominations – wow!

3/Celebrity Net Worth site assessed his net worth in 2015 at $30 million.

4/My own fave films of Ralph are: In Bruges; Red Dragon; Strange Days; English Patient; and especially Quiz Show, and I am pleased that all 5 are given good to excellent review ratings in Bruce’s tables above.

5/”work horse” Ralph has 8 cinematic movies at post or pre-production stage including the two mentioned in Bruce’s tables above – No Time to Die and The King’s Man

Accordingly Ralph is a worthy recipient of a Cogerson page in my opinion so “Voted Up!”. Good trivia above; I didn’t know about him being listed as 15th Greatest Villain ever in movies and to my shame I only vaguely remember him in Schindler’s List.

The latter is possibly because I was preoccupied with Liam Neeson’s performance as Liam comes from Ballymena, just down the road from me. Liam has greatly contributed to the maintenance and development of live theatre in Northern Ireland, by for example intensively lobbying in the States for funds for improvements to our local theatres.

    1. Hey Bob. Glad your favorite Ralph Fiennes movies rated so high, here at UMR. I enjoyed all 5 of those movies…especially In Bruges and Quiz Show. Thanks for the further detail on his non film career. The man is a very very busy man, ranking up a ton of awards and net worth. Surprised his role in Schindler’s List did not register with you more. He is really evil in that role, even worse than his super evil character in the Harry Potter movies. Good stuff as always.
