  1. Wow, I was not expecting a page on Richard Attenborough given that the majority of his films were made in Britain, with little impact in the US or information on North American grosses…but well done, I appreciate you listing all the British films for which Box Office info was lacking, as many are good ones.
I remember a few years ago when Richard Attenborough passed away, there was a little blurb about it on Canadian national TV news. They said a few things about him directing Gandhi and playing in many films. Then they said something like most people will remember him for his role as Big X in The Great Escape. Given Attenborough’s long, illustrious career both in front and behind the camera, this surely underplayed his achievements. But it also shows how important The Great Escape was and continues to be to the careers of many who were associated with that movie.
Anyway, Attenborough was never a big star, but he was a fine dramatic actor who had considerable influence on British cinema before Escape and earned notable roles in American films afterwards. And of course, from A Bridge Too Far, he became a highly reputable director as well. Though I’m not into nobility, I think he well deserved his knighthood!
I have seen 30 of Attenborough’s films overall, 24 in which he acted, and 6 that he directed. Favorites are Brighton Rock (which made him a young star in Britain), Danger Within/Breakout, I’m Alright Jack (though he had more of a cameo in that one), The Great Escape (obviously), Seance on a Wet Afternoon, Flight of the Pheonix, The Sand Pebbles, 10 Rillington Street, A Bridge Too Far and Gandhi. I’m ok with the Jurassic Parks, but not a big fan. I’m too much of a dinosaur myself to enjoy dinosaur movies 🙂

    1. Hey PhilHoF17. Sir Attenborough is on two lists I am working on…Best Director Oscar Winners and Joel’s book subjects. I suspect as those lists start to get bare….I will have more pages like this….lots of review only movies. My older children only know him from The Great Escape and Jurassic Park. That his huge chucks of his career that they are clueless about.

He is the 5th star of The Great Escape to get his own UMR page. Your 30 Attenborough movies seen is the most in our tally counts. First an interview and now a gold medal, you are on a roll. As always good stuff.

        1. Hey Sir PhilHoF17…we are honored that Sir Phil has taken the time to visit our little website….lol. SteinHoF16 will be jealous of your title.

  2. Hey Dan. Thanks as always for putting these lists together. Wow….90th place. Way higher than I would have guessed. I guess all those movies from the 1940s and 1950s carry a lot of weight in the Oracle formula. The first list is filled with lots of British thespians that are hardly known here in the United States. Marianne Stone is his most frequent Oracle co-star….their last movie together was only 41 years ago. 33 Oscar winning co-stars is pretty average….I guess not many of his English co-stars won Oscars. 1959’s Danger Within, is a Michael Caine movie, I am not aware of at all. As always, great information.

  3. Richard Attenborough is # 90 on the Oracle of Bacon Top 1000 Center of the Hollywood Universe list. These are the other actors on the list he has appeared with. This is only for pictures he acted in. There are 4 people on the list he has acted with at least 5 times, one of them 9 times.
