    1. Hey Dan…once again… I am right behind you in the tally count…as I have seen 11 of them. I have watched a few of his movies many many times….Love Actually, Notting Hill and Four Weddings are movies WoC and myself re-visit often. Good stuff as always.

        1. Hey Dan….glad we agree on Love Actually…..I guess I can forgive WoD for not liking Love Actually….we teachers need to stick together….lol.

          1. Wow…this Richard Curtis page has been sitting in the Top 3 UMR Trending pages for a few days now….I can not figure out why? He is currently NOT in the news…..ah…..life is indeed a mystery. Thanks for the return comment.

          2. Hey Dan….I remembered that she was a teacher….I was just saying we teachers (me and her) have to stick together….even with her being on the very wrong side of the Love Actually debate…lol.

  1. IMDB credits Richard with 19 awards and 5 nominations and his net worth is said to be $30 million. I have seen 3 of his movies: Notting Hill, 4 Weddings and Bean. The grandkids dragged me to see the latter but I enjoyed those other two flicks and wasn’t my Julia enchanting in Notting Hill?]

4 Weddings of course made an international star of Hugh Grant who as others have mentioned has been in several films with which Curtis was involved. Grant’s stock in trade has been the “bumbling silly English twit” [sorry Steve, that’s how critics and historians-and not I- describe the persona] and that persona has been beautifully developed down the years by other gifted Englishmen such as Ian Carmichael, David Tomlinson and Hugh Laurie, for the latter of whom Curtis has also written.

Where Grant has departed from those other screen “silly twits” is apparently in that they didn’t carry the “bumbling” part of the character into real life as Hugh did by letting his girlfriend [Liz Hurley] and all of the world catch him frequenting the company of hookers!

4 Weddings was made for a budget of around $7 million in today’s money and as illustrated above grossed an adjusted $540 million worldwide. A large part of the credit for that must go to Richard whose own experiences as a wedding attendee inspired his writing for the film. Once again in providing Brit all-rounder director, screen writer, movie producer and TV producer Curtis with a new page this site has continued to demonstrate its expansive versatility so “Vote Up!”

    1. Hey Bob…thanks for the movie thoughts on Richard Curtis. I am right there with you on Notting Hill and Four Weddings and a Funeral. And yes…Julia is very enchanting in that one. WoC and I almost re-watched that movie again the other day…but I talked her into seeing another Richard Curtis movie..About Time instead. She really enjoyed that one too….only one of three movies Curtis has actually directed. I think…Grant has overcome his issue with ladies of the night….shockingly that was almost 25 years ago. Four Weddings and a Funeral was indeed a massive surprise blockbuster…and now it is either a television show or a mini-series. Go figure. Glad you successfully made it home from your vacation.

      1. HI BRUCE

Thanks for the post-holiday good wishes.

Despite that bad ‘hookers’ publicity I have always found Hugh Grant a joy to watch on the screen. Indeed if all Russell Crowe had done was to fool about with a few Red Light girls they probably would have given him an award for good behaviour – provided of course that he didn’t beat the ladies up!

Anyway your feedback is always of value to me.

          1. BRUCE:

Many Brit celeb icons seem to have individualistic tastes in the romantic partners they choose. For example a top player in Steve’s hometown football club Manchester United with a charming and intelligent young wife and fine kids was ‘outed’ a while back for his addiction to dating elderly grandmothers on the side.

There was also talk that he too became involved also with the kind of gals who frequented the 1970 Cheyenne Social Club owned/operated in the movie by Hank Fonda and my Jimmy.

Solicitors for the footballer concerned tried to fight the allegations but had to back off doing so because of the evidence.

  2. I saw 8 including top 6 .10s and favorites: 4 weddings and a funeral, notting hill. i enjoyed all 8 and pirate radio is my hidden gem an 8(phillip Seymore Hoffman and bill nighy nail it).

    1. Hey bob cox….thanks for the feedback on Richard Curtis. 8 is a good tally. I am right there with you on Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill. I think I need to re-watch Pirate Radio….I thought it was ok the first time…..but I thought the same thing on Curtis’ About Time..and I enjoyed it more the second time. Gotta love Bill Nighy….maybe I should do a page on him one of these days. Good stuff.
