  1. West Side Story is one of my top 5 favorite musicals and ‘America’ is one of the best tunes in a musical full of great songs. Superbly performed by Rita Moreno and George Chakiris, both won Oscars for their roles and both are still with us nearly 60 years since the movie was released.

Looking at the chart I’ve seen 8 films out of 32 listed. Favorites are – West Side Story, The King and I and Singin’ in the Rain (my no.1 musical).

Not that happy with Spielberg wanting to remake West Side Story, it was already perfect. But in Trump’s America the background story should have more resonance. Might be interesting to see what Senor Spielbergo does with it.

    Good work Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve. Thanks for comment, visit and tally count. Tally counts: Flora 11, Steve 8, Cogerson 8 and Pierre 1. Good to know that West Side Story is so highly rated in the Lensman world. Rita is all over the place these days acting….movies…not one but two television shows….and picking up awards on a good pace. George has not acted since 1996. He has only made one movie since 1969. But he had a decent 1960s.

Your favorites are three of the greatest musicals ever made….so not thinking many people can argue against your favorites. I think of all the directors, S.S. is probably the safest bet to create a good movie that honors the greatest of the original. Although a R rated Quentin Tarantino version might be interesting…lol. Good feedback as always.

  2. Hello girls and boys,
Rita Moréno, for me is just one film and one song, West side story with I like to be in America,
I remembered I don’t want to see this film simply because I was young but the film was really electric and great And in in the mean time I remembered one blonde dancer for ever because she was The Blonde, to night with the net everything is so easy I found out her name, Carole D’Andrea ….and every time I saw the film I watched her….
A remake of West side story, why not, in the mean time a chef d œuvre is unique and stay unique…
Have all of you a good day
    Pierre

    1. Hey Pierre…..well….if your tally is one…..you have seen the right one. West Side Story and America are all-time classic movies and all-time great movie songs. Good mini-review of West Side Story. Interesting memory on Carole D’Andrea. Well…at least the remake is in the hands of a master…I suspect Spielberg will make a good movie….and I think the politics of the movie are very timely these days. Good to hear from you. Thanks for the feedback.

  3. Damn she is looking pretty good for 87. I hope I age like that. She seems to be going stronger than ever. I have seen her in a few episodes of One Day At A Time and she is probably the only person coming back in West Side Story. Nice tribute.

    1. Wow….SteinHoF16 on the website again…I like it…..I was thinking you had outgrown UMR. I agree she is aging pretty well….hopefully I can follow her path. I have not seen her show One Day At A Time….but I am aware of it. Looking at the cast on IMDb for West Side Story…and it looks like you might be right….I thought maybe George Chakiris would join her….but his IMDb does not show any acting credits in the last 23 years. Thanks for the kind words on our Moreno page.

  4. I have seen 11 Rita Moreno movies. This Saturday, she will be the Star featured for 24 hours that day on TCM as part of their annual Summer Under the Stars and there will be three movies featured that are new to me: Carnal Knowledge, The Lieutenant Wore Skirts, and Seven Cities of Gold. I’ll be recording them to watch later.

The HIGHEST rated movie I have seen is West Side Story.

The highest rated movie I have NOT seen is Carnal Knowledge.

The LOWEST rated movie I have seen is The Ritz. I found it a funny comedy worthy of a higher score than it gets.

      1. Thanks for the comment, visit and tally count on Rita Moreno.
      2. Tally count….you have seen 11….and I am right behind you with 8.
      3. Good information on her and Summer Under the Stars on TCM….good timing on my part to get this page done in time for that.
      4. Sounds like your tally will be going up pretty quickly….as you have those 3 movies on your “to watch” schedule.
      5. Of your favorites I have seen all 4…..and I enjoyed them.
      6. Marlowe (one of the other ones you have seen) is on the top of my list of ones to see….James Garner as Marlowe on paper sounds like a good idea.

    1. Hey Dan…..good lists packed with awesome trivia on Rita Moreno and her co-stars. Wow…only one co-star in more than one movie…Mr. Alan Arkin….though Susan Hayward has that claim when looking at the second list. Bob will be happy to see Brando on both lists…as well…as a photo I included in the page. Looking for young people on the first list..I do not see many….but I suspect somebody from West Side Story (2020) will eventually make the list and keep Moreno on the list for a long time to come. 20 Oscar winning co-stars seems a little on the low end…..but not a bad percentage. Good stuff as always.
