  1. Hi Bob, thanks for the review, rating, comment, info, trivia, observation, comparison, appraisal and evaluation, always appeciated!

Happy the visual presentation has met with your approval.

I prefer Al Pacino from that generation of great actors but there’s no denying De Niro’s place in the pantheon of movie greats, even Pacino was a fan. The top 10 movies on my wonderfully accurate De Niro chart are all highly rated classics, so good in fact that there was no room for Midnight Run or Casino on there, whoa ho! 😉

I saw both True Confessions and Guilty by Suspicion on video tape a long time ago, for me Guilty was the more interesting of the two. The average rating for Confessions was 5.75, Guilty managed 5.65. They both fare better on Bruce’s chart.

I admire his acting in Raging Bull but it’s never been a favorite of mine, I much prefer Taxi Driver, I’ve watched that many times over the decades. Brazil is also a huge favorite of mine.

Diane Keaton is definitely on my video list, as is Streep, but probably not in the current wave of actresses, there are still some classic ladies left over I want to finish with.

10 De Niro films have scored 10 out of 10 from my sources, how often does that happen?
    Godfather II
    Taxi Driver
    Raging Bull
    Deer Hunter ,The
    Goodfellas
    Untouchables ,The
Once Upon a Time in America
    Mean Streets
    Brazil
    King of Comedy

And 10 more have scored 9 out of 10 including Heat and Midnight Run.

The highest rated De Niro film at IMDB is Godfather II, scoring 9.

    1. HI STEVE

Thanks for the backchat and supplementary information. I look forward to the Keaton/Streep videos when you get around to them. The so called “Greatest Sex Kitten of All Time” will do for now !!

  2. STEVE

1 I forgot to say in my Bobby De Niro post that in a recent interview Russell Crowe claimed that he had it on good authority that he was Mr Mumbles’ favourite actor. I had always thought that that accolade belonged to Robert De N of whom Mr M once said “He’s so good even he doesn’t realise how good he is,”

2 However it is possible that there is no contradiction in the matter as Mumbles himself is the actor I most ADMIRE artistically whereas for example Peck, Widmark, The Duke and Laddie entertain me more whilst some of ole Mumbles’ stuff is “dry goods” in my opinion. Therefore the latter 4 are more my favourites for a night’s viewing than Mr M is.

3 However De Niro and Dustin Hoffman apparently spent a long time as Mumbles’ guests on that island of Mr M’s and it is well known that Robert and Mr M got on life a house on fire at a personal level whereas I doubt if the prickly self-centred Mumbles and the aggressive volatile Russell could have remained too long in each other’s company. Anyway as I’ve said previously it’s just a pity that Joel wasn’t about today to tell us all who our favourites SHOULD be.

  3. HI STEVE 1. You have now profiled all of the most important actors in the Godfather films and De Niro didn’t surface until GF 2. However the respected British actor Colin Firth recently remarked in a TV interview that after Godfather 2 “Everyone was talking about DeNiro.” And the adulation continues with IMDB for example listing Robert as the 3rd Greatest Actor of All Time.

2 One quarter of your 40 De Niro posters are among your very best for my taste so here they are in no particular order: Frankenstein, Great Expectations Joy, Wag the Dog, This Boy’s Life, King of Comedy, Brazil and three foreign language ones The Good Shepherd, Once upon a Time In America and The Last Tycoon The best stills in my opinion are Angel Heart, Cop Land, Limitless, Casino, Heat, The Untouchables, Raging Bull which was I thought especially outstanding and The Score.

    3. You and WH agree on 4 of DeNiro’s Top 5 flicks with him choosing Brazil instead of The Deer Hunter which rounds off your own 5. My one disappointment was the exclusion of two of my very fave De Niro flicks, True Confessions and Guilty by Suspicion. Nevertheless overall I felt that this was an entertaining 97.5% rated video.

4 So much for the Godpop guys but what about the Godpop gal – W of Michael? Bruce has not only given her her own page but ranks her a high 11th on his superb list of the 25 Greatest Actresses of all Time and we wouldn’t want him to be in a position to accuse us of being chauvinistic by not including her in these exchanges. A** COVERING BIT- if you’ve done a video on Diane that I haven’t picked up a link would be helpful as I’d be keen to see it – thanks.
