Robert Duvall (1931-) has been nominated 7 times for an acting Oscar®. He won the Oscar® for Best Actor in Tender Mercies in 1983. His most famous roles have been directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Those roles would include The Godfather Part I & Part II, and Apocalypse Now.
First big break was when he was cast as Arthur “Boo” Radley in the classic film To Kill A Mockingbird. Duvall has appeared many acting roles since To Kill A Mockingbird…..many are all time classics. I think it is safe to say that Robert Duvall is one of the greatest character actors to appear on movie screens.
His IMDB page shows 142 acting credits from 1956-2017. This page will rank 73 Robert Duvall movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in theaters were not included in the rankings.

Your top 5 is good, but his role in Network is the one that showed me he could do some serious acting, also Rain People with James Caan is a forgotten film, which by the way was directed by Francis Ford Coppola
Thanks for the compliments hinton1966….I agree his role as the snake like television executive in Network is awesome
I can not believe Duavall is that old, he does not have many movies left in him. I have not seen Get Low, but the preview looks pretty good.
Hey Yankees Rule….yep he is getting up there…thanks for stopping
He is a great supporting actor, I was unaware he was even in To Kill A Mockingbird. Nice movie page.
Thank you Kelly…..when he pops up in Mockingbird….it is like hey that’s Duvall…lol
Smells like…….victory.”
and then the Godfather….great stuff!
Thanks reading and commenting FCEtier….the difference between #1 and #2 is closest of all the pages I have done….. .22 points
“I love the smell of napalm in the morning.”
One of the best. It’s good to see my three favourite Duvall films at the top of the movie score.
The adjusted box office is always fascinating to look at, MASH grossed over $400m? Wow. Bullitt $256m! Meanwhile Nic Cage’s new action film Drive Angry struggles to reach $20m.
Steve….his top 3 are all great films….that keep getting better with age…..I like looking at the inflated numbers as well….to me it really shows you how successful a movie was….MASH was huge….I think lots of people are not even aware there was a MASH movie
