Why I watched this one? Four reasons: (1) It is a great real life story. (2) The trailer looked good. (3) Love Tom Hanks…this was the 39th Hanks movie that I have watched. (4) Love Clint Eastwood…this was the 58th Eastwood movie that I watched.

What is this one about? The story of Chesley Sullenberger (Hanks), who became a hero after gliding his plane along the water in the Hudson River, saving all of the airplane flights 155 crew and passengers.

My thoughts on this one? Really enjoyed this movie. The only complaint I have is that it took about 10 minutes before the movie drew me in. But once I was drawn in it was a great ride. The movie is NOT a thriller….this is how Sully dealt with the investigation of the crash, dealt with becoming a national hero, dealt with realizing how close he was to death and dealt with the self-doubt about whether he did the right thing by doing the forced landing in the Hudson River.

Tom Hanks is stellar in this movie. This should get Hanks his first Oscar nomination in 16 years. Yes 16 years! He does an amazing thing in this movie…he makes you forget he is Tom Hanks. Aaraon Eckhart is equally impressive as the co-pilot. Laura Linney, as Sully’s wife, also brings some good stuff to the party. As for Clint…..he still has it as he approaches his 87th birthday. Never has he done a movie with such a splittered time line but he pulls it off. We get numerous views of the forced landing….and they get more dramatic each time. Clint might get some Oscar love too…..but I am betting it will be for the music….which he composed. Final thought: A movie worth seeing….with excellent performances…highly recommeded.
