1 And the coincidences simply keep on coming ! I’ve just watched an episode of Dick Van Dyke’s TV mystery series Diagnosis Murder and in it a detective on a manhunt calls at a roadside diner and asks the waitress if within the last 6 months any famous people have called there whom she can still remember and she replies “Just George Clooney – and I would certainly always remember him!”
2 Thanks for your further comments on Gorgeous George. Jose Ferrer was never a box office star but he gave some fine performances and my favourite stand alone Ferrer movie is
The Great Man (1956) which is an entertainments industry expose which George would probably be quite content to make today and which Jose directed and co-wrote as well as taking the lead role
3 If you haven’t seen it I urge you to give it a try. I liked the tag line on the posters at the time of its release EVERYBODY LOVED THE GREAT MAN EXCEPT THOSE WHO HATED HIS GUTS !
Hey Bob…..1. Very cool about George Clooney getting some more attention….it is what he needs….lol.
2. I will have to track down The Great Man….though I admit I have not even heard of that one before.
3. I like the tagline too. Thanks for the suggestion.

An added bonus for you if you do see The Great Man is that Jose is given a strong supporting performance from Van Johnson’s old mate Keenan Wynn. Made little money in its day but was a critical success for Ferrer and seems to have dated well as today for example IMDB gives it a respectable7.2 out of 10
Thanks for the Shane link on the Burt Reynolds page.
BOB
Hey Bob….I figured you would enjoy Steve’s Ladd video. 7.2 is pretty impressive for sure. I will see if I can track it down in my massive public library collection. Ferrer had some hits in the 1950s…it looks like The Great Man was one of his last good movies.
HI Bruce
As I say Jose co-wrote, directed and starred in The Great Man and what was the name of the movie Michael Douglas made with Kirk – It Runs in the Family? {Sad Mike wouldn’t let his old man have top billing in that one]
Hey Bob….I did not know that Ferrer did all of that on The Great Man…sounds like he was trying to become the next Olivier or Welles….thanks for the information. Just guessing….but when It Runs In The Family was made….Michael was a serious star…and Kirk had a supporting role….as a movie executive….as much as I respect Kirk…..Michael had the best chance to put butts in the seats……though ultimately….butts in the seats did not happen….but It Runs In The Family is a movie in my DVD collection. 🙂
Not a huge Clooney fan….yet…..when I watched Money Monster last night….that means I have seen every movie he has made since 1996.
