1. Thanks for the heads up by Dan that Valentina Coretese has died at 96. I’m not too familiar with her career. However, Thieves Highway is airing on Noir Alley on TCM on Saturday, July 27th.

   1. I have double checked Valentina’s career to see what film I may have seen.

      I have seen 3 of Ms. Cortese’s movies:

      Day For Night – a favourite
      The Barefoot Contessa – a favourite
      Juliet of the Spirits – a favourite

      I look forward to seeing Thieve’s Highway on July 27th at 9pm Eastern. (It repeats at 7am Pacific on Sunday.)

2. 2 people on the December 15, 2018 Oracle of Bacon Top 1000 Center of the Hollywood Universe dead in the same day, # 102 Rip Torn, age 88 and # 727 Valentina Cortese, age 96.

   1. Hey Dan….thanks for the information on Torn and Cortese passing away. I know Torn very well….yep know nothing about Valentina Cortese…..but it is still sad news….rest in peace Rip and Valentina.

3. Hey Bob…..weird….not sure why you were not able to see that post. Basically…we have made the decision to eliminate the “breakdown of the tables” that you like so much. Mainly because….we now have too many pages to keep the breakdown accurate. In the past you have mentioned that you liked that table. Well…..since we are doing that….we figured we needed to update the $100 million movie page. Basically having the same information….only on a table…or at least most of that information. Things like how many 60% or higher critical movies an actor has, how many movies earned at least one Oscar nomination. Career box office. Things like that. Currently that page has been abandoned even though it is listed as a link on over 700 UMR pages. Bad website management on our part (ok…my part).    1. HI BRUCE Thanks for the link and the explanations.

      As you know I have loved the $100 million barrier page and my only mild complaint was that you ranked the stars by the number of 100 mil entries each had rather than the weight of money involved in each batch of 100 mil entries.

      For me, say 12 entries at an average of $200 million each = $2.4 billion is more impressive than 18 entries at $105 million = about $1.9 billion. However (1) it is a credit to you and W o C that you are always looking at ways to improve the site and simplify as far as possible the information presented on it (2) one consolation was that no matter which way the 100 mils were presented big Marion Morrison would have come out tops!

      1. Hey Bob. I think the tally of $100 million movies is going to always be how the table goes. The Duke would want it that way. Ultimately I want to include career earnings, the average per movie, as well as the other categories I listed before. Currently WoC does not have our UMR stat index set up that way. One day. I got her expertise today….but we generated a report that was sparked by something I saw on our very recent Dennis Hopper page. Hopefully I can finish that tonight. We went through 186,000 pieces of information to create an interesting list. A list that sadly include some of my favorites like Burt Reynolds, Bruce Willis and Michael Caine. Good feedback.

4. WORK HORSE For some reason I can’t get into your 23rd May post so I don’t know what it’s all about. You must know by now that I feel that your site is genuinely a unique wonder to behold in the length and breadth and depth of its provision of intelligent and serious movies information.

   Therefore if I had any misgivings they would be very minor and it would normally seem petty and indeed churlish to complain about them.Indeed there is only one modest factor that I dislike and it relates to your relatively new chronological tables on the individual movie stars pages so I will for once let the Joel in me out of its cage and voice a mild personal reservation.

   Whilst I find useful the chronological presentation of the information itself, and I like you demonstrating graphically your ratings of the movies, I find the particular presentation you use slightly unsightly and as if somebody has torn a portion of the page away. I would prefer simple black and white stars to demonstrate ratings eg ****, **.

   I don’t have your expertise in the technical terms concerned so I hope I’m explaining myself properly but in the end I’m just one voice and if your other viewers, W o C and yourself are happy with it so be it.

5. Back in the early 1990s my son was heavily into American wrestling on TV and I often watched it with him. It was more or less a bonding exercise because I had no real interest in it and of course anyone who has watched out of curiosity even just a few Jason Statham movies as I did in later times could obviously tolerate nonsense and hambone activity to a reasonable extent.

   The Royal Rumble is a big national event produced every Jan since 1988 by the World Wrestling Entertainment Incorporation of America [WWE] and is US wrestling’s sort of equivalent to the NFL’s Super Bowl.

   I watched the Royal Rumble a couple of times with my son and was amazed by the diversity of prizes that were given out. For example in one of the years Terry Hulk Hogan [the ‘King Gable’ or ‘Duke Wayne’ of wrestling at that time] won the event outright; a guy called Flyin Brian [aka Yellow Dog]was thrown out of the ring at the start of the competition but clung to the ropes throughout and got a prize for “longest at the ring”; and wrestler Jake the Snake Roberts won a prize for coming out top in a blindfold bout in the ring with a ‘pretty boy’ wrestler called The Model, who got a runner up award! At the end of all this my son turned around to me and proudly said “You see dad, there’s something for everybody at this tournament.”

   I was reminded tonight of those bygone days when I first scanned your master index and then read down through the boxes on the right of your pages such as Top Ten Trending Pages and Latest UMR Pages as it occurred to me that a very fitting tagline for your site would have been “There’s something for everybody” because the diversity and intensity of your site is without equal in my experience.

   1. Hey Bob. I have the same memories with older boys and wrestling. They loved watching that….and to be the “cool” dad I would watch it with them. My ex-wife actually made a video of the boys wrestling as wrestling stars….I bring that video out every now and again just to pick with them.

      As for your very kind words….they are greatly appreciated. We have tried to make it a page any movie lover can enjoy…..from the classic pages to the brand new pages on the movies in theaters this weekend. I feel that is one of the reasons that the website has grown so fast. Thanks for the feedback and comment….both are greatly appreciated.
