UMR Reviews Sorcerer (1977)

I had wanted to see this movie for a very long time. Well last week it was my birthday and my wife hooked me up with a Sorcerer blu-ray. Movie deals with four bad guys who are stuck in hell and have a chance to escape. Their escape route? Drive over 200 miles on horrible roads while transporting lots of unstable dynamite.

This is not a very light movie. There is almost no humor in this one. It is intense from the beginning of the movie to the end of the movie. There is a classic scene with a truck crossing a very unstable bridge. That scene alone is reason to watch this one. The sound in the movie is amazing. It got an Oscar nomination back then and still sounds great 44 years later.

William Friedkin made this movie after back to back smashes The French Connection and The Exorcist. This might be his most impressive movie. It has aged very well. Some viewers that watch it for the first time might not believe this one is from the 1970s.

Final thought: This is a technical wonder to watch. The lack of story and character development might discourage some, but I really enjoyed this one.
