Need to know which Star Trek movies got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

This page was originally written as a Star Trek vs Star Wars comparison.  Well Star Wars pretty much kicked Star Trek’s butt …… so I figured I would separate these two movie franchises into two pages.  This page ranks the 13 Star Trek Movies from Best to Worst.  The rankings were determined by looking at box office grosses, critic reviews, audience voting and award recognition.  I am also including a second table that looks at all 21 Star Trek/Star Wars movies.

The late great Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spocl appeared in 8 Star Trek movies.

Star Trek Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Sort Star Trek movies by the Captain of the Enterprise
  • Sort Star Trek movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost
  • Sort Star Trek movies by adjusted worldwide box office grosses using current movie ticket cost
  • Sort Star Trek movies how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each Star Trekmovie received.
  • Sort Star Trek movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score.  UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

Star Trek movies have grossed 2.40 BILLION when looking at adjusted domestic box office…they grossed  $3.70 BILLION when looking at adjusted worldwide box office.

  1. Where is the mention of the series involved with Star Trek? If we are going to compare these two series, we most certainly should include all of the different incarnations of these series (books, television shows, etc) so as to truly see the effects they’ve had. Only by seeing all sides can we truly become aware of the issue.

    1. This was looking only at the performances of the movies at the theater. Star Trek’s nearly 800 shows on tv were not considered….but I do know they were extremely popular

  2. Again, another great page where math seems to show which franchise is better than the other. Out of curiosity though if the “star wars” films are re-re-released in 3-D like Lucas wants, will the box office stats for those movies be factored into this hub later on? Anyways, thanks again for writing this, as I really enjoyed reading it.

    1. Hey Stevennix, I know that movies that got re-released, like Gone With the Wind, they just kept adding to the 1939 total….however I notice that Toy Story/Toy Story 2 3D, have totals that do not go into the old totals of Toy Story and Toy Story 2, but I am willing to bet that they will eventually be added in together….plus I am sure George Lucas wants them added up together so the movies look even more impressive…. thanks for reading and commenting

  3. The first Star Wars movie (1977) is by far my favourite of the series, saw it many times at the cinema as a kid. And it still works as a stand-alone bonafide SF classic.

And I’ve been a Trekkie since childhood, my favourite tv series of them all is still the 60’s Star Trek with the original crew. Plus I own all the various Trek series on DVD.

But lets be realistic here Star Wars is geared towards a much younger audience than Star Trek, especially the prequels.
