This page was originally written as a Star Trek vs Star Wars comparison.  Well Star Wars pretty much kicked Star Trek’s butt …… so I figured I would separate these two movie franchises into two pages.  This page ranks the 13 Star Trek Movies from Best to Worst.  The rankings were determined by looking at box office grosses, critic reviews, audience voting and award recognition.  I am also including a second table that looks at all 21 Star Trek/Star Wars movies.

The late great Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spocl appeared in 8 Star Trek movies.

Star Trek Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Sort Star Trek movies by the Captain of the Enterprise
  • Sort Star Trek movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost
  • Sort Star Trek movies by adjusted worldwide box office grosses using current movie ticket cost
  • Sort Star Trek movies how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each Star Trekmovie received.
  • Sort Star Trek movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score.  UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

Star Trek movies have grossed 2.40 BILLION when looking at adjusted domestic box office…they grossed  $3.70 BILLION when looking at adjusted worldwide box office.

    1. I agree…just got back from seeing it….it was awesome….it almost felt like Leonard Nimoy was in the movie….which I loved.

  1. It’s and awesome movie aye. I went back and watched 2009 and Into Darkness and they just don’t measure up anymore.

    1. Hey Daniel…..I agree 100%…..this felt like an original Star Trek movie….which was awesome. I think that now that we have seen this group 3 times…they are merging with the original team. Which I am really enjoying.

  2. Loved the new Star Trek movie. I am not alone as the people in the theater gave it a nice applause at the end. Live long and prosper.

    1. Hey Stein….my theater did not give it applause…..but judging by the reactions throughout the movie…it was very well received in my theater as well. Live long and prosper. VVvVV

  3. HELLO BRUCE:

1 I have read from the viewpoint of statistical interest your updated page on Star Trek and Star Trek v Star Wars.

2 I was surprised to see that Star Trek’s overall foreign gross comprised only 35 % approx of its total worldwide gross – ie domestic gross 65% (rounded) of total.

3 Your tables make for interesting comparisons elsewhere if I have correctly interpreted and added all your various figures. For example:

    (1) Total adjusted worldwide gross for Star Wars is approx 11.5 billion and for James Bond in the relevant Cogerson table it is just under 17.2 billion.

    (2) However the average adjusted Star Wars worldwide gross over 8 films is just under 1.5 billion and for James Bond it is around 0.660 billion over 26 films.

    (3) Whether you go for average gross or total gross these are staggering figures for both franchises and Star Trek on a world wide adjusted gross of 3.7 billion and an average gross of o.285 billion (rounded) is definitely the ‘poor relation’

4 Once again a wealth of information for the statistical student!

    1. Hey Bob.
      1. Glad you found the updated page….we just saw the movie…..the best Star Trek movie since Star Trek IV in my humble opinion.
      2. Yeah Star Trek has not been a big winner overseas….Into Darkness was actually the biggest hit overseas….so maybe Beyond will top that one…..but compared to James Bond and Star Wars….they are like low budget Westerns of the 1930s…lol.
      3. Star Wars is king…Bond has the benefit of so many movies…compared to the small amount for Star Wars.
      4. Good to see this page getting some traffic….it was getting kind of dusty…being in the shadow of Star Wars 7…lol.
Thanks for the statistical breakdown…..very interesting stuff.
