His line, “What we’ve got here is failure to communicate.” in 1966’s Cool Hand Luke is considered one of the greatest lines in movie history. His IMDb page shows 176 acting credits from 1950 to 1980. This page will rank Strother Martin movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. To do well in the rankings, a movie needed to do well at the box office, be liked by both critics and audiences and earn some award recognition. We listed over movies in our rankings, but there are some of his movies that were not included. This was due to lack of box office information.

I’ve seen 24 of the 45 films on the chart, probably more. Favorites include – Hard Times, True Grit, Slap Shot, Butch Cassidy, Liberty Valance, The Wild Bunch, Sons of Katie Elder, Shenandoah, Cowboy and Cool Hand Luke.
Butch Cassidy tops Box Office and UMR charts but failed to get into the top 5 in the critics chart, no.1 on there is Cool Hand Luke.
Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!
Hey Steve…thanks for checking out our Strother Martin page. His line in Cool Hand Luke is one of the greats of all-time. Tally count: 24 for you and 22 for me. I have seen all of your favorites. Hard Times is a fun movie…I just did a page on the director of that one, Walter Hill…..that was his first movie. Attack kept my Butch and Sundance out of the Top 5…I guess I should see that one. Good stuff as always.
