  1. HI BRUCE

I have seen just 2 of Taraji’s movies in the above table – Karate Kid and Larry Crowne – but from what I have read about her she is the type of lady that I admire because as I understand it she is heavily into crusading against the mistreatment of animals.

Anyway she doiesn’t need my blessing as she has a reported 30 acting awards and 67 nominations to her credit and has accumulated a net worth of $16 million. Also I warmly welcome and Vote Up another Cogerson profile of a talented African American personality.

Taraji’s next movie The Best of Enemies is at post production stage and in it she plays real life Ann Atwater a civil rights activistwho battled with Ku Klux Klan leader C P Ellis for a decade until 1971. I seems like a film that would greatly interest me and the tagline on the poster that I have seen is “CHANGE IS WORTH FIGHTING FOR”

    1. Hey Bob….of the two that you have seen, I really liked Larry Crowne…it is a cute movie with a new cast…Hanks should direct more. I thought The Karate Kid was fine…but….it has not had the legacy of the first one. Henson is laughing at the curse of 39….as she has become a bigger star after turning 39. With What Men Want being successful…and with The Best of Enemies coming soon….she should end 2019 on an even higher note. Added bonus for The Best of Enemies…is that Sam Rockwell is her male lead in that movie….should be interesting. I agree with your final sentence 100%….Change is worth fighting for. Good feedback as always.

  2. I saw 6.10 not favourite: the curious case of Benjamin button. I enjoyed hidden figures an 8 and historically significant

    1. Hey bob cox….thanks for checking out our Taraji page. Glad you liked Hidden Figures….most of the action in that movie takes place about 15 minutes from where I live. I liked Benjamin Button….but it is not a favorite of mine either. Good feedback.

  3. The face is familiar but I didn’t know the name.

I’ve seen 4 of the 28 films on the chart, they are – Date Night, Smokin’ Aces, Benjamin Button and Four Brothers. None of them big favorites.

Looking at the the rest of the chart I can’t say I’m interested in any of them… well maybe Hidden Figures for it’s NASA Space Race connection and Ralph Breaks the Internet.

    1. Hey Steve….recently….I switched classes…and the first day we did a “Getting To Know You Worksheet”. One of the questions was …”Favorite Movie Star”. The Top 3 were Kevin Hart (easily the winner…25% of the students named him), Dwayne Johnson and Chris Pratt. In the Top 10 was Taraji P. Henson. So that fact and that her What Men Want was coming out….it seemed time to give her a page.

Tally count….I have seen 21 of her movies…or 75%. Much higher than I would have ever guessed. Hidden Figures is an excellent movie…..and it is based on stuff that happened right around my neck of the woods. Ralph Breaks The Internet was alright….but worth waiting for. As for the 4 you have seen….seen them all….with Smokin Aces being a guilty pleasure. What a cast….and a cast that keeps getting more impressive…Henson, Ryan Reynolds, Jason Bateman, Ben Affleck, Chris Pine, Joel Edgerton…all UMR subjects. Good stuff as always.

      1. HI BRUCE Interesting you have switched classes. Hope all is going well with the “new batch”. Your straw poll of the thespian tastes of your students seems to bear out my oft repeated quote that “The past is a foreign country. They do things differently there.”

It kinda way reflects other surveys in the past as for example I have mentioned on a few occasions that a poll of US university students nearly 40 years ago found that less than half of those polled knew who King Gable was.

Also in the late 1990s I found myself the “golden oldie” in a class of very young people and none of them knew who ole Mumbles was until somebody mentioned The Godfather. All those Brando classics of yesteryear that Joel raved about were unknown to them!

Still whilst I respect the choices of your new pupils I will stick by the tastes of my own generation and preceding ones when I see that The Rock was high on the today list. I suppose that it could have been worse though and Statham could have been named!

The lesson for you thought is don’t under any circumstances try to indoctrinate those young people with The Master as you have US – they will not be interested! That aside I am sure they will come to admire and revere you as much as we all do.

I’m off walking now and will look in on the site again tomorrow. Meanwhile take care and best of luck with your new gang. Suggested homework essay question for them “Myrna Who?” I will deal with Taraji when I get home.

        1. Hey Bob…..thanks for the visit and the comment. As for having a different class….I am the person they move where ever they need help……it amazes me that this has happened….as I originally took this as a part time job….which has turned into a full time job.

To be noted…in our poll….Harrison Ford got two votes….while Dorothy Dandridge got one. They are the only “classic people” to get votes. I was shocked to see Dandridge get a vote. I have not brought up Loy or Joel….but the website has gotten some mentions.

I am sure many of them know Brando…..they are just not mentioning him….lol. Actually to them….Kevin Hart is their Brando……what range he has…..actually his latest movie has had some incredible legs at the box office…as Upside looks like it will reach $100 million in domestic box office.

Enjoy the rest of your holiday…..looking forward to your Taraji thoughts later.

          1. HI BRUCE

Thanks for your response. Between you and Steve you are building up quite a backlog of work for me when I get home. Lucky it will be a”labour of love” I don’t have the time here to give new pages/videos the attention they need.

Interesting you’re the guy they bring in when they are in trouble over classroom provision. It reminds me of the 1955 Mitchum western movie Man with the Gun in the States but over here called THE TROUBLE SHOOTER! In that one Big Bob was a hired “town tamer”.

Anyway I’m, off on my rambles again.

      2. Hey Bruce, Interesting to hear about the favorite movie stars of young people these days. Makes me feel old and out of step. I haven’t commented on some of these modern stars pages because I am too embarrassed to let out how little I know about them and how few of their films I’ve seen, but I do check out every new UMR page. Hope you’re taking the time to also tell the kids about Cary Grant, Spencer Tracy, Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn, Steve McQueen (yes I mean the actor)…and of course Marlon Brando 🙂

        1. Hey PhilHoF17…..I feel old and out of step every time I walk into my classroom. Heck…many of the teachers are twenty to twenty-five years younger than me….and they rarely get my mentions. Ah…the benefits of getting older. I appreciate your UMR support….no worries about not commenting. Many many times, I feel it is time to take a break from the website…..as WoC says….it is like pushing a heavy rock up a mountain…only I will never make it to the top.

In a couple of weeks….my class will be talking about Blogging (it is a Technology class). I will be sure to get some classic people mentioned….people like Grant, Tracy, Peck and others….good stuff as always.

    1. Hey Dan…as always…thanks for these awesome lists. I suspect that Taraja P. Henson is working her way to making the Top 1000. She is one of the hardest working actresses working today. Looking at the first list….not a whole lot of multiple co-stars…a few two-timers….but no three-timers…..though I am sure her three movies with Tyler Perry have provided lots of three-timers. Seeing Jon Polito at #343 is nice to see….with Albert Finney’s passing…I have been thinking about Miller’s Crossing a lot….and that was easily the highlight of Polito’s career…sadly both he and Finney are no longer with us.

Second list….only 11 Oscar winners…..but I suspect that no will quickly increase….not getting to Caine levels….but getting to at least average as the years pass. J.K. Simmons was in every movie ever made….just nobody noticed him…..lol. Good stuff…as ALWAYS!
