  1. Rest in Peace Mr. Ted Kotcheff. While driving home from a weekend visit with SoC#2 (Son of Cogerson #2), WoC (Wife of Cogerson) told me about the passing of the actor Nicky Katt and the director Ted Kotcheff. As my mind worked on figuring out which Kotcheff movies I had seen….the only one that popped into my mind was Switching Channels. When we got home I immediately went to work on tribute pages to Katt and Kotcheff.

I have to say, Kotcheff’s filmography, with a somewhat limited amount of movies is pretty impressive. He did well in lots of different genres. He had action movies covered with First Blood (it started a franchise that lasted decades), and Uncommon Valor (one of the best Vietnam rescue movies). He made one of the best sports movies (North Dallas Forty). He had comedy covered with Weekend at Bernies, Fun With Dick and Jane and Who is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe. Solid dramas like Winter People (an underrated Kurt Russell movie) and The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz (one of the first Richard Dreyfuss leading man roles). He directed a cult classic, Wake in Fright (his only Top 10 movie I have not seen). He directed some legends like Gregory Peck, Dustin Hoffman, Burt Reynolds and Jean Simmons.

This is a nice legacy. My personal Top 3? – North Dallas Forty, Winter People and First Blood. Rest in peace Mr. Kotcheff.
