Teresa Wright Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Column One is the name of the Teresa Wright movie and the link for the trailer for that movie
  • Sort Teresa Wright films by co-stars of her movies
  • Sort Teresa Wright films by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort Teresa Wright films by yearly domestic box office rank
  • Sort Teresa Wright films by how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie.
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each Teresa Wright film received.
  • Sort Teresa Wright films by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score.  UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

  1. I have ALWAYS liked Teresa Wright, and I’ve always wondered why on earth she never did become one of the top stars of her time. I have seen 14 of the listed movies and I enjoyed her personally in ervery single one. My favs though are Persued, The Men, Shadow of a Doubt, Enchantment, The Best Years of Our Lives, one of my all time favorites, The little Foxes, and her “different” turn in the mild comedy An imperfect Lady. I have seen some of her TV work, also, and I was never disappointed by her. One note on the “different” movie The Search For Bridey Murphy: If you manage to believe the rather absurd story, you will end up loving Teresa Wright’s performance!

    1. Hey Lupino….tally count…wow…I just through crowing Greg as the Wright champion…and here you go knocking him from the throne…lol. Tally count…you 14, Greg 11, Flora 10, Cogerson 10 and Little Stevie 3. Maybe Steve needs to watch Mrs. Miniver and Best Years of Our Lives.

I will have to check out An Imperfect Lady….sound interesting. Bridey Murphy barely got released in theaters…..so I am surprised somebody actually mentioned it. I will have to check that one out also. Thanks for the comment and the visit.

  2. Thank you, Bruce, for fulfilling my request for a Teresa Wright page. Out of all the films you listed on the page, I have seen eleven of them with SHADOW OF A DOUBT and PRIDE OF THE YANKEES being my favorites among the movies I have seen Miss Wright in. I also enjoyed Teresa’s performances in MRS. MINIVER, THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES, and THE MEN. The other Teresa Wright movies that I have seen include TRACK OF THE CAT, THE ACTRESS, THE LITTLE FOXES, SOMETHING TO LIVE FOR, THE SEARCH FOR BRIDEY MURPHY, and ENCHANTMENT. Just my opinion but I think Teresa should have won her Oscar for her lead role in SHADOW OF A DOUBT in 1943 and not her supporting role in MRS. MINIVER in 1942. Personally, I am amazed at how many great performances in Hitchcock films got overlooked when it came to Oscar nominations. The fact that Cary Grant never got any of his Oscar nominations for any of his Hitchcock films is pure out and out bull. If memory serves me, there were some movie critics as well as some movie industry insiders that felt TRACK OF THE CAT would end up getting a boat load of Oscar nominations back in 1954 but such was not the case. Thanks again, Bruce, for honoring my request in such a timely fashion. 🙂

    1. Hey Greg
      1. Glad you like our requested Teresa Wright page…..I think Steve’s videos and my stat pages go very well together…..so glad Steve stirred you in the direction of UMR.
      2. Tally count….you 11, Flora and me 10 and Steve 3…..normally in our tally counts….Flora and Lupino top the charts….so congrats on taking down Flora.
      3. I have not seen The Men yet….actually I had a chance to buy a used copy of that movie…..but the store I was in, was too busy to buy it….but one day I will see that.
      4. I just recently saw Enchanted…..a good movie….with an excellent David Niven performance.
      5. Hitchcock did not direct many Oscar nominated performances…which is a shame….because in time..those are the performances that get remembered the most.
      6. Ones that did get nominations…Janet Leigh in Psycho and Joan Fontaine in Suspicion are the ones that come to mind….I wonder how many I am missing.
      7. Interesting trivia on Track of the Cat…..I have seen that one….so I find that trivia very interesting.
Glad we were able to get your request done so quickly….greatly appreciated the feedback.

        1. Thanks for the link, Bruce. I’ll be sure to check out that page but I also need to start checking out the pages for some of my other Classic Hollywood favorites such as Rosalind Russell, John Garfield, Doris Day, and Montgomery Clift to name a few. Being on this website takes me back to the days when I was the movie critic for my high school newspaper. 🙂 <3

  3. Hello Bruce.
I’m glad to see a page on Teresa Wright. I liked her very much. My favorite films of hers are “The Little Foxes”, “Shadow of a Doubt”, “Mrs. Miniver” and “The Best Years of Our Lives”. She was also good in “The Pride of the Yankees” and “Pursued”. Good Page. Thanks Bruce.

    1. Hey Lyle….glad you like this Wright page. I feel good about the rankings….as your six favorites are ranked 1 through 6 in my rankings. Making Mrs. Miniver and Best Years of Our Lives could be highlights….yet she also has Pride/Yankees (massive hit), Shadow of Doubt (one of Hitch’s best movies) and Little Foxes on her resume….pretty impressive. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on her.

    1. Hey Dan
Interesting lists as always. Even though she only made a few movies after 1959….her total of co-stars still on the current list is pretty impressive. Actually if you look at the 2016 and 2000 lists, she actually improved with regards to how many of her co-stars are in the Top 100. It went from 2 to 8. Thanks for sharing this information.

  5. Hi

I’ve always loved Teresa Wright. She was fantastic in The Little Foxes and The Best Years Of Our Lives. But I thought her best performance was Shadow of Doubt.
By the late 40’s she had fallen out with Samuel Goldwyn and went independent, where she was getting less money and less distinguished parts. The 50’s were hard for most established female stars and she wasn’t a big enough draw for producers to be interested in her.
Nevertheless she had a very successful career in television and stage work. She started off so well but like so many, her star faded. I also forgot about Mrs. Miniver where she won her Oscar. She was meant to appear in the Bishop’s Wife but think she had to pull out through pregnancy or illness. After that it seemed to go downhill movie wise. Great page for a great actress.

    1. Hey Chris. Her falling out with Samuel Goldwyn probably explains why her 1950 decade was so weak compared to her stellar 1940s decade. I did not know she was supposed to be in The Bishop’s Wife. I will keep that in mind the next time I watch that one. Good stuff.
