Cogerson Review of The Post
Why I watched this one? Lots of reasons (1) Tom Hanks…this was the 20th Hanks movie that I have seen in theaters. (2) Steven Spielberg…one of the best directors ever….and (3) My dad worked at the Washington Post in the early 1970s.
What is this one about? A cover-up that spanned four U.S. Presidents pushed the country’s first female newspaper publisher and a hard-driving editor to join an unprecedented battle between the press and the government.
My thoughts on this one? A well done movie with solid performances throughout the movie. It was fun to see Hanks and Meryl Streep on the screen together. I liked the movie….but I did not love the movie. I know it is not fair…..but I kept comparing The Post to All The President’s Men…which is one of my all-time favorite movies. The Post is just not as thrilling as All The President’s Men….as even though I have seen the latter many times….it always keeps me on the edge of my seat…like a good rollercoaster. The Post was more like a Ferris Wheel….yeah it has a nice view….but it just does not get my blood going. Final thought: A good movie….glad I watched it….but with all the talent involved in this one….I was expecting greatness.
