UMR Review of Vice (2014)
When I first saw on IMDb that two of my favorite actors were appearing in the same movie….I was excited. I have liked John Cusack for over 30 years now….and Bruce Willis is my favorite actor. With the exception of Sin City 2…I have seen every acting role he has done. From his television appearances (including every Moonlighting episode) to his big budget movies, to his low budget indy films, to his many cameos, and now sadly his direct to dvd movies. So I am sad to report that this is one of his worst movies ever!
When Jason Patric’s daughter goes missing, he is drawn back into the life he gave up. To rescue her, he must confront his former rival (Willis). Cusack is his old friend that helps him out. Willis only has a few scenes….Cusack does not show up until almost a hour into the movie…..50 Cent shows up and dies in about 90 seconds of screen time. That leaves Patric to do all the heavy lifting….as he appears in almost all of the scenes in the movie. Patric might be strong…but he can not lift this movie….which has a very predictable story…..some very weak action…..is filled with hencemen that can not hit the side of barn with a shotgun…..and many many C’Mon Man scenes. For example. In one scene Patric finds his daughter…..instead of driving right out of town…they decide to go to a hotel and wait for the bad guys to find them.
Final thought: As a direct to dvd movie this is about average or 3 stars….as a Bruce Willis movie it is about 1/2 stars. So taking an average….I think this is about a 1.5 star rating. Skip this movie. Hey Mr. Willis please stop making movies like this one.
