Tom Cruise (1962-) has been one of the biggest movie stars for almost forty years. He first started appearing in supporting roles in the early 1980s in movies like Endless Love, Taps and The Outsiders. After appearing in those supporting roles, he got the chance to star in 1983’s surprise hit …..Risky Business. After Risky Business it has been a string of hit movie after hit movie.
His IMDB page shows over 50 acting credits since 1981. This page will rank Tom Cruise movies from Best to Worst in seven different sortable columns of information. The only movies not included in the rankings are the ones that have not yet been released in theaters and his Austin Power’s cameo.

“Show me the money!” Sorry I was just looking at the top picture of Cruise shouting on the phone in Jerry Maguire. Yes he sure has had some huge hits, the Mission Impossible franchise has been good to Tom and a fifth one is coming up later this year. Looking at your charts I’ve seen 30 of the 37 films you’ve listed. I enjoyed his two recent sci-fi films – Oblivion and Edge of Tomorrow. Good work updating this page Bruce.
Hey Steve….let’s see….my tally count….is 37….wow I have seen every Tom Cruise movie ever made….and I am in the “not a fan” category. I think because every movie he makes is an event movie..it seems that I feel obligated to watch it. Regardless of my personal view on him….I have to give him all the credit in the world when it goes to box office glory. His worldwide box office grosses are staggering! Thanks for returning to my updated page.
Hi Cogerson: Very interesting stats! I prefer the last Table as my taste seems to gel with the general populace and there are some movies listed there which are not on the other Tables! I particularly liked Tom’s acting in “War of the Worlds!” He is an awesome actor and still looks as young as he did way back when. Great physical condition. I was interested in the trailer for “Rock of Ages” and sorry to hear that it has tanked! Great page!
Hey Suelynn….I am glad you like my tables of stats on Tom Cruise movies….the first two tables only look at the Top Ten…while the last table ranks all of his movies…from Best to Worst…..and it looks like Rock of Ages will stay near the bottom of his movies…it is sad when the only movie it beats is a teenage comedy movie from the early 1980s….starring Cruise and Shelley Long before she hit it big with Cheers.
As for War of the Worlds…I loved the first 3/4 of the movie…but the ending was so bad(final 1/4) it ruined the entire movie for me….thanks for the visit.
As always your page is great. All the information, all the detail is right on. Tom Cruise is definitely a good actor but after his stint on Oprah (didn’t see it live only saw it in re-runs) he’s lost favor with a lot of people besides me. I know we shouldn’t let movie star’s personal life affect our judgement of their work but sometimes it’s hard not to.
Hey tillsontitan….thanks for the visit, the compliment and the comment. I agree the Oprah dance on the couch scene seems to be something that change many people’s minds about him….the whole M.I. 3 publicity was so overdone….people got tired of him….M.I. 4 made sure not to follow that mistake. Other than M.I. 4…he has not had another hit in almost 6 years now. And now he has another divorce to deal with….poor little Tom Cruise
Hey Tom, I just heard the breaking news! TomKat is officially offer. Is it wrong that I’m thrilled for Katie? Is it wrong that I always wondered what Katie saw in you to begin with? Was it that you thought the world revolved around you? Hmmm. Probably not. After 6 years our Katie Holmes has seen the light and what so many of us already saw. I feel for Suri. I suggest you give Katie full parental rights as she requested.
You need to work on yourself. Three strikes and you just might be out of the marriage race. But who knows. Oh and I truly feel you owe Katie a whole lotta money for dealing with you for 6 years.
Were you by any chance expecting a fan letter. Nope. This is Sunshine’s anti-fan letter. Search within yourself Tom. I hope you find it. Good luck with future relationships. Oh and I really wanted to see Rock of Ages, but you were in it so I passed. Oh and KeithUrban sure got lucky when he got Nicole Kidman, she was also too good for you. Ok, I’m done…Sunshine has spoken.
Hey Sunshine….June has not been a good month for Tom….first Rock of Ages disappoints at the box office and now his third marriage comes to an end…..good thing there are only two days left in June….at least for his sake.
I read they have a pre-nup and they are worth 270 million….I am sure Katie will be getting a good piece of the pie….thanks for the anti-fan letter.
Well, I think you’re all crazy. Tom Cruise is in some of the greatest movies on my list anyway. And I think it’s funny now that after being the coolest guy in the world for twenty years, suddenly now everyone hates him. Hey, look, I understand he’s done a few crazy things but hell, you try being the most famous guy in the world for twenty years and see if you don’t make a few mistakes. I know part of it is his fault but most of it is the media seeing someone on top for so long then they have to drag him down then, of course, the pubic follows…I mean, he was Mr. Hot until he jumped on a couch and now every girl thinks he’s ugly??? He looks exactly the same…I just think people forget the good stuff.
Hey showtime….you make some very good points about Tom Cruise and his career. I think the fact that almost every movie he has starred in over the last 30 years have generally not only been hits but they have been monster hits. I think Rock of Ages will be another hit for him as well. Thanks for your very spirited comments on Tom Cruise….and I think in time more and more people will think the same way.
And one more thing, I liked some of his earlier stuff but it’s that time, for me, in between 1986 to 1996 that I really love. From Top Gun to Jerry Maguire. He started all that SyFy stuff after that and I’m not into that. But I hate it when I watch Days Of Thunder and think God this should be everyone’s favorite movie. Whats wrong with people now lol and Top Gun and Cocktail is underrated and Far and Away is underrated, And I love, A few Good Men, The Color Of Money, Rain Man, NOT Born On The Forth Of July, But also some of the good earlier stuff he did as well… Sorry, if sounds like I’m trying to take up for him too much here, but hell, somebody’s gotta say it, and I ain’t afraid to do it just because it’s not the popular thing to do now. It’s crazy.
Hey Showtime….thanks for the great thoughts about Tom Cruise
