  1. Added Steve’s Tom Hanks Video To This Page. Have also added Steve’s and mine comments found on his You Tube Channel.

Me – “I have seen all of his movies in the video and all his movies not listed. I have two for the first time within the last two weeks. We saw Toy Story 4 in theaters while I saw He Knows Your Alone (not listed)on DVD a week ago. That means I am currently a Hanks completist. Nothing in Common seems too low. Toy story 4 seems ranked too high. Good video voted up. Will share on UMR in a little while.”

Steve – “Hi Bruce, not surprised you’ve seen them all I know you’re a huge fan, ditto Harrison Ford. Toy Story 4 is actually rated higher on your UMR chart, it’s in 4th place and you give 9 out of 10! 🙂 Thanks again for the comment, vote and share, much appreciated.”

Me – “Hey Steve….I have noticed that Toy Story 4’s rating is getting lower and lower as more people see it. I generally do a review % when the movie first comes out…and then do one when it finally leaves theaters. If I were to redo my ratings % this morning it would be down to 88.50%. Still pretty high….but I suspect that it will end up in the mid 80s when it is done. Also…I wanted to list my Top 5 Tom Hanks movies. Apollo 13, The Green Mile, Saving Private Ryan, Cast Away and Toy Story…with Forrest Gump, Toy Story 2, Bachelor Party (saw in theaters back before Hanks was a huge star), Nothing in Common and Angels and Demons. Finally…this video is shared at UMR.”

  2. Hey Bob and Steve. Well…I have seen Steve’s Tom Hanks video….just can not currently sign into my YouTube account and post my comment. That is on my list when I get home. (1) Fix my 201 page (2) Crank out a 2010-2019 table for Mike and (3) Comment and share Steve’s latest video.

I am not surprised he has taken this long to get a Hanks video done…he along with Julia Roberts are not his favorites….but I still like Steve….lol. For us…Bruce Willis was our first page, Tom Hanks was our second page and Julia Roberts was our third page.

Good to see Steve and I agree on the Top 3. If this is my last comment to Bob before he leaves on his trip….have fun and be safe. To Steve….I will share this page in about 30 hours. Good conversation between the two of you.

  3. 1/Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise and Harrison Ford are the highest ranked modern stars in Bruce’s list of the 100 Greatest Stars on this site.

2/In WH’s comprehensive and highly reliable recent book which ranks the Top 50 greatest movie stars of all time [statistically speaking] Hanks is ranked 3rd.

3/He is also ranked 3rd in The Work Horse’s 25 Greatest male Legends 1950-2010.

4/IMDB ranks Tom 7th in it self-proclaimed “Ultimate” List of the 100 Greatest Actor of All Time.

5/Tom’s net worth is a mind-boggling $400 million according to Celebrity Net Worth.

6/IMDB credits Tom with a massive 84 acting awards and 151 nominations.

7/Tom had made just one film when The Master wrote his scary [for some of us] 1983 book. However I would like to think if more of Tom’s work had been available to Hirsch
when he was sifting out those for execution Tom would have been one of those with whom Joel would have professionally fallen in love and in his case the axe would not have fallen.

8/Indeed I am convinced about the latter in view of what I have said about Bruce’s admiration for Hanks in 1/ – 3/ above. There’s an old saying “The apple does not fall far from the tree.”

I liked the early Hanks movies such as League of their Own, Sleepless in Seattle, Philadelphia, You’ve Got Mail, Road to Perdition, Catch Me if You Can, but lost interest in him after the latter two 2002 movies. I have never had any inclination to watch his more recent films such as Sully, Captain Phillips, Da Vinci Code, Bridge of Spies. The Toy Story franchise which began back in 1995 NEVER held any attraction for me and I’ve seen none of the series. Liked your posters for it though – see part 2

You and WH agree on 4 of Tom’s top 6 best reviewed films. He includes Capt Phillips and Bridge of Spies in his 6 whereas you go for Gump and Toy Story 2. I rated your video 98%

      1. Hi Bob, thanks for reviewing my Tom Hanks video, appreciate the generous rating, info, trivia and comparison. Glad you liked the picture gallery.

I thought you might have found the Dan Brown adaptations interesting, they have a mystery element you might enjoy, but they are violent.

Bridge of Spies might be right up your alley too.

As much as I enjoyed the Toy Story series I was hoping Saving Private Ryan would be no.1 but it was not to be. I see that Bruce also has Toy Story as his no.1. In fact we have the same top 3, second video in a row.

Five Tom Hanks films scored 10 out of 10 from my sources – Toy Story 1,2,3, Captain Phillips and Saving Private Ryan. Five more scored 9 – Forrest Gump, Philadelphia, Big, Road to Perdition and Apollo 13.

Saving Private Ryan is tops at IMDB and Toy Story 1 rules at Rotten Tomatoes.

Hanks on Bonfire of the Vanities – “When we were making it, that movie was huge. We couldn’t make a move anywhere in New York City. Everybody was talking about it. Everybody was miscast, me particularly. Brian De Palma deals with iconography more than filmmaking. He is the most uncompromising filmmaker – both in a good way and a bad way – that you’ll ever come across. This is the guy who made Scarface. So his take on it one just one of those things.

You can’t take a book like that, that has changed the way people talk and think and change it into a palatable movie, or alter the thrust of what the source material is talking about. It may not translate in a way that is going to work. The same way that I know that I’ll never do a movie as good or as celebrated as Forrest Gump, I know that I’ll never do a movie as bad as The Bonfire of the Vanities.”

“I don’t cause riots, but I do cause confusion. People freeze when they spot me.”

        1. Nearly forgot to wish you a great holiday. Away from Brexit land for a few days? Nice. Curious to see if Boris can deliver what he promises. I hope so.

Two of your favorites Denzel and George Clooney will be in this latest wave of videos, if all goes well. Arnie and Sly too. [Bob groans]

          1. HI STEVE Thanks for explanations, additional information, quotes, advice on movies I should watch, and your best wishes for my holidays. Even if I am not fond of an actor, that will not turn me off admiration for first-rate posters and stills for that actor’s movies. So bring on whomsoever you wish!

However I think you have misunderstood me about Arnie. It’s true I now think he’s past his sell-by date as an action hero but I liked him immensely in his heyday because of the sense of humour and self-depreciation that he often brought to his roles – 1990’s Kindergarten Cop and 1994’s True Lies provide perfect examples of what I mean.

Feeling that a star is past his/her best is not a put-down of him/her at career peak. Heck if Laddie were still acting today he would be a month short of 106 and I would probably be starting to get a bit tired of HIM in tough-guy roles – though I’m sure the Reds would still be terrified of him!

A word of caution about Boris. My brother is possibly the greatest Brexiteer on the planet, hates the EU passionately and closely follows politics, and he tells me he is wary about trusting BoJo. My brother thinks that remaining prime minister may be a higher priority for Boris than delivering Brexit. I see that reportedly members of the ERG too are starting to get a bit jittery about the possibility that Boris may try to pull a sleight of hand in the way that Mother Theresa did.

I will of course be looking in on the site as much as possible during my break and will try to hit the ground running with catch-up posts when I return.

    1. SteinHoF16….one of our missing Hall of Famers ducks his head in….. I like it…hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Yep…Hanks is now 63…..luckily he is aging well. Good feedback.
