Need to know which Tony Scott movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.
When I awoke this morning I was sadden to see the news that movie director Tony Scott (1944-2012) had passed away. On Sunday, August 19th, 2012 he jumped from a bridge and ended his life. To quote Ron Howard on Twitter August 20th, 2012….”No more Tony Scott movies. Tragic day”. For many months now I have been thinking about doing a movie page on his older brother, Ridley. However after checking out Tony’s career I was amazed to see that 15 of his 16 movies were already in my database and that I had seen every single one of his movies at least once. So I figured I would do a very quick tribute to one of the best action director over the last 30 years.
Tony Scott directed 16 movies from 1983 to 2010. His films were filled with lots of action and lots of movie stars. He worked 5 times with Denzel Washington, 2 times with Gene Hackman, 2 times with Tom Cruise, 2 times with Brad Pitt, and one time with the following actors….Bruce Willis, Will Smith, Robert Redford, Robert DeNiro, Dennis Hopper, Eddie Murphy, Kevin Costner and John Travolta….not a bad collection of actors in his 16 movies. This page will rank those 16 Tony Scott movies from Best to Worst in seven different sortable columns of information.

That is so sad. 🙁 I was a big fan of Tony Scott’s! I’ve seen all on this list except True Romance. A shame and a tragedy. I feel for his family. Great tribute page, cogerson.
Hey TToombs08….True Romance is one to check out….it is very violent but has many great scenes and performances by many people…there is a scene between Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken that is one of the best ever! My thoughts and prayers go to his family as well.
Wow I’ve seen all but 3 of his movies. It’s extremely sad that he felt took his own life, but I didn’t know why until now. How tragic. I guess he figured he was calling the shots and not his tumor. I’m thankful for the gifts he left behind (even if Tom Cruise starred in some of the movies). Great movie page Cogerson!
Hey Sunshine625…I am impressed with your 13 out of 16 movies seen….especially with Tom Cruise being in 12% of his movies. I think you are correct he left behind lots of great movies that will be around for many more years.
How sad! “No more Tony Scott movies. Tragic day”.
This is an excellent page, cogerson, promoting Tony’s achievements in the film industry. He will not be forgotten!
Hey Martie….I think Ron Howard’s quote says it all….looking at other quotes it appears that Tony Scott was very helpful to lots of filmmakers…which only makes this sad news even sadder.
A timely tribute to a real cutting-edge director. True Romance, Top Gun, Crimson Tide are some of my top fav movies. He had a signature style- flash cuts, cool editing, dramatic lighting and pace. I was considering writing a tribute movie page but after the Cogerson effect’ there’s little else to be said. Awesome Bruce!
Hey Docmo….thanks for the kind words….glad to see someone mention True Romance as a favorite….his commentary and Quentin’s commentary are two of my favorites….especially their disagreement over the ending of True Romance…and whether Clarence would survive or perish….Scott won that argument.
Bruce, great page – weird, we watched Man On Fire last night. When I saw this story on the news this morning I was shocked. Tony and Ridley are from my part of the world (Ridley was born in my home town) so we have had it all over the local news as well today; so very sad. My favourite of his movies is Crimson Tide, never get tired of seeing that one and we enjoyed Man On Fire too.
Hey Jools99….I imagine many of his fans will be watching Man on Fire and Crimson Tide over the next few days….not to mention Top Gun. That is very interesting that Ridley was born in your hometown…I imagine he is in shock as well….their Scott Free production company has a pretty impressive track record.
