When I awoke this morning I was sadden to see the news that movie director Tony Scott (1944-2012) had passed away. On Sunday, August 19th, 2012 he jumped from a bridge and ended his life.  To quote Ron Howard on Twitter August 20th, 2012….”No more Tony Scott movies. Tragic day”. For many months now I have been thinking about doing a movie page on his older brother, RidleyHowever after checking out Tony’s career I was amazed to see that 15 of his 16 movies were already in my database and that I had seen every single one of his movies at least once. So I figured I would do a very quick tribute to one of the best action director over the last 30 years.

Tony Scott directed 16 movies from 1983 to 2010. His films were filled with lots of action and lots of movie stars. He worked 5 times with Denzel Washington, 2 times with Gene Hackman, 2 times with Tom Cruise, 2 times with Brad Pitt, and one time with the following actors….Bruce Willis, Will Smith, Robert Redford, Robert DeNiro, Dennis Hopper, Eddie Murphy, Kevin Costner and John Travolta….not a bad collection of actors in his 16 movies.  This page will rank those 16 Tony Scott movies from Best to Worst in seven different sortable columns of information.

  • Sort Tony Scott movies by adjusted worldwide box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)

  1. He will be missed. Your tribute is just really great and detailed. He was a very gifted man and I loved many of his movies. Great page. In His Love, Faith Reaper

    1. Hey Faith Reaper….I am glad you enjoyed my tribute to him. Hopefully his family is doing ok in this time of grief and I am sure they appreciate all the good will they are getting. Thanks for such nice words.

  2. I was so saddened to hear of his death also this morning. I loved his movies – Top Gun will always be my favorite of his. I had no idea about the brain tumor, but at least that gives a reason why he would take his own life. He was such a successful director and film maker. It is tragic – but I guess he wanted to decide how and when he would die and so I respect his decision. RIP I really like this tribute you wrote about him. Great info!

    1. Hey suzettenaples …..thanks for the comment….the news of his death was shocking and tragic….Top Gun is a classic….he was actually trying to develop a sequel to the movie….I wonder if that project will stall or pick up momentum due to his death.

  3. I was so sad when i heard about his death. he was my favorite movie director. His vision and his talent to direct such great films will be forever missed. My favorite film of his is Man On Fire. He had a flashy style that no other director could capture. Great tribute.

    1. Hey Fullerman5000 …thanks for checking out my Tony Scott tribute. I love the fact that so many people have their favorite Tony Scott movie….and Man on Fire seems to be the favorite of many…..with Crimson Tide, Top Gun and True Romance being very popular picks.

  4. Coge…Today’s news is so tragic…..difficult to believe when this sort of tragedy strikes.

To think of the success this man experienced and the enormous contribution he made in Holly wood with such incredibly huge hit films. If we haven’t seen all of them, we are definitely familiar with them….

For me, it makes me come to terms with the hard core realities of life…and the fact that fame and fortune is no guarantee against desperation and hopelessness. My heartfelt sympathies to his family and loved ones.

    1. Hey fpherj48…..I agree with your comment 100%….it does not matter how much material stuff you collect during your lifetime…you come into this world with nothing and you leave with nothing….the important thing is what you leave behind…..and in his case he left behind many awesome movies and a wonderful family.

  5. Hi – I saw the news on the internet but did not know his name as a director but I have seen just about all the moves you listed. Lots of action. I voted interesting and useful. Such a shame and as someone mentioned Phyllis Diller died as well. She was quite something a few years back – she was a good comedian. THANKS FOR THIS LATEST PAGE COGERSON, YOUR MOTHER.

    1. Hey BERN1960….yep he had a very quiet career but I think many people are looking at his movies and are being amazed by the amount of movies that have watched and liked. As for Phyllis Diller she was a funny lady and reached the impressive age of 95.
