When I awoke this morning I was sadden to see the news that movie director Tony Scott (1944-2012) had passed away. On Sunday, August 19th, 2012 he jumped from a bridge and ended his life.  To quote Ron Howard on Twitter August 20th, 2012….”No more Tony Scott movies. Tragic day”. For many months now I have been thinking about doing a movie page on his older brother, RidleyHowever after checking out Tony’s career I was amazed to see that 15 of his 16 movies were already in my database and that I had seen every single one of his movies at least once. So I figured I would do a very quick tribute to one of the best action director over the last 30 years.

Tony Scott directed 16 movies from 1983 to 2010. His films were filled with lots of action and lots of movie stars. He worked 5 times with Denzel Washington, 2 times with Gene Hackman, 2 times with Tom Cruise, 2 times with Brad Pitt, and one time with the following actors….Bruce Willis, Will Smith, Robert Redford, Robert DeNiro, Dennis Hopper, Eddie Murphy, Kevin Costner and John Travolta….not a bad collection of actors in his 16 movies.  This page will rank those 16 Tony Scott movies from Best to Worst in seven different sortable columns of information.

  1. I had not heard this news on Scott. He had some really incredible talent and I only missed a couple of his movies. My favorite is Enemy Of The State. I also admire his brother’s movie productions as well, guess the talent was in the family.

    1. Hey teaches12345…..I agree 100% with your comment….I wonder how Scott Free productions will move on without one of the big parts of the picture…..Scott Free productions makes movies, tv shows and many other things….and now it is all on Ridley. Thanks for stopping by.

  2. Unfortunate that this page had to be rushed to the top of your list. What an amazing career that you report here. His action films are top notch and both he and his brother’s names should be known in households all across America.

Thanks for putting this together for us. Ridley Scott’s name is on some of the most memorable movies.

    1. Hey mckbirdbks…..thanks for the nice comments…..I agree with you about both Scott brothers….I have thought about Ridley many times during this week.

  3. Well done Cogerson for getting this out so quickly and so professionally. It doesn’t give the impression it’s been quickly written, so that’s a sign of good writing and presentation. Tony Scott is not a director I am very familiar with – Top Gun and Days of Thunder are the only films I know really well – but the tributes he has received speak volumes.

    1. Hey Greensleeves Hubs/Alun…thanks for stopping by and checking out my tribute. Tony Scott had a very distinct style with his movies…it is a style that will be missed. I would recommend Unstoppable, Crimson Tide and Enemy of the State as ones to check out.

    1. Hey nanderson500 ….True Romance is my favorite of his movies….I remember seeing it at the theaters and could not believe how awesome it was….then I could not believe how little in did at the box office…..but then I have watched as time has been very kind to the movie….and you see on the critics/audience table it ranks first of all his movies. My favorite parts on the small roles by Oldman, Pitt, Walken, Hopper and Tony Soprano. Thanks for the visit.

  4. So sad, Cogerson. I’ve viewed every single one of Tony Scott’s films and was never disappointed. In case you haven’t guessed, I’m a dyed-in-the-wool movie fan. You did him proud with this tribute and compendium of his films. May he rest in peace.

    1. Hey drbj……I have liked all of his movies except for Domino….I have watched that movie 2 times and both times I could not believe Tony Scott was behind the camera for that one…..but the other 15 I am right there with you. I remember being fascinated with The Hunger as a kid……True Romance blew me away when I was a young man….and most recently Unstoppable impressed my whole family. I appreciate the comment and the compliment.
