  1. All I have to say is awesome! This is probably the most comprehensive top 100 movie list that I’ve read thus far. I have to say that I was very surprised to see how Rocky ended up at number one, but i’m glad it did, as it’s a great movie. I didn’t realize the boxing hall of fame inducted stallone because of that character, as that’s very interesting. I’ll definitely have to tell my brother about that, as i’m sure he’ll get a kick out of hearing that, as he’s a big movie fan too. Anyways, thanks again for writing this, as I have to say you really outdone yourself in this page, and it’s definitely one my favorites.

I’ll definitely be sure to vote this one up, as well as tweet and link your pages to my facebook

    1. Thanks for the compliment Stevennix2001….hopefully you feel your request was taking seriously…. Stallone became a member of the Boxing Hall of Fame in June 2011, he classification was as an Observor…whatever that means. Glad you liked the sports pages….now on to Richard Widmark.

      1. Nah, don’t worry about it buddy. Besides, I know I sent you a lot of different requests at once, so no worries. Yeah, this definitely lives up to what i was expecting and then some. In fact, I’m still shocked about which films ended up where they did.

        1. Thanks for the support Stevennix2001….I like my list….I especially like when you get lower on the list and their are specific reasons why they are ranked there. Overall I think the Top 10 is filled with great movies….and I have yet to have anybody mention a movie that did not make the Top100…that should have made it…thanks for commenting.

What a lot of work! I’m thrilled that classic movies did so well. Here are my favourite 20 listed in their ranking order, in reverse order-of course rememebering that I’m not a fan of boxing movies or martial arts-I know very well that Rocky is the most successful. But it’s not my kind of film. Where I have included them, the movies are crime films. A lot of baseball movies in my list:

    99 Night and the City

    88 The Set-Up

    71 The Cincinnati Kid

    57 Damn Yankees

    44 Bull Durham

    43 Caddyshack

    38 Here Comes Mr. Jordan

34 Take Me Out to the Ballgame

    30 The Natural

    29 The Color of Money

    25 The Stratton Story

    19 The Hustler

    17 Seabiscuit

    13 Field of Dreams

12 The Champ (the only non-crime boxing film I enjoy)

11 a League of Their Own

9 The Great Race-not a surprise to me it did well as it is full of stars

    8 National Velvet

    3 Heaven Can Wait

2 The Pride of the Yankees

    1. Hey Flora, yep the classics did very well. Your favorite Widmark film barely made the Top 100….but it made it. I think the only movie that made the list that I had not heard of was Lusty Men with Robert Mitchum…any thoughts on that one. Glad to see Caddyshack made your list some people hate that movie, but I think it is very funny. My wife and I watched Heaven Can Wait this past weekend….I can not believe that Dyan Cannon got an Oscar nomination for that role. But my wife now wants to Here Comes Mr. Jordan…which will probably be next weekend. As always thanks for reading and sharing your top movies.

      1. re: lusty Men. I have heard of it, but I still haven’t seen it. It airs on AMC from time to time, so I have access to the film. Let everyone know what you think of Here Comes Mr. Jordon. I love that movie.

        1. Thanks for the information on Lusty Men….I am currently searching my local libraries for a copy of Here Comes Mr. Jordan…which is one of the benefits of living in area that has the nickname “The Seven Cities” …if I look hard enough I can pretty much find any movie I want for free at a library that is close to me.

  3. One of your best pages so far Cogerson, congrats.

A fascinating compilation of popular sports movies, and I’m glad you kept the fictional sports of Rollerball in the main list too. I prefer that movie to most of the “real” sports movies on your list. 🙂

Another favourite Hard Times (1975) is way down on the chart but at least it’s on there, great film.

“Gonna fly now…” Good to see Rocky at the top of the moviescore chart, and it’s no surprise to see Raging Bull topping the critics chart.

Lets see I’ve watched… 46 of the 100 sports films you’ve listed, and only a few of those I’ve liked enough to buy on DVD.

    1. Hey Steve thanks for the compliments and comments. I was rooting for your cricket movies to make the Top 100…but Lagaan finished 144th while The Final Test finished 271st….but I was rooting for cricket to get some respect. As for Rollerball….I think “Roller derby on steroids does a great job describing that movie….I have been a James Caan fan for years…so it had to be included. Hard Times had a little room to spare….8 spots….but it did beat 219 movies which is pretty good…I was going to do a Top Box Office and Top Critics Table…but the page is already way too long as it is….as always thanks for stopping by.

  4. Extremely creative page! I’m impressed! I’m also excited Blindside came in at #7!!! Rocky doesn’t surprise me at #1, classic, superb movie! Thank you for taking the time to create this work of art. Thanks also to stevennix2001 for requesting it. Awesome/TWEET!

    1. Hey Sunshine625…thanks for the great compliments…I am glad your Blind Side finished so high….and looking for your other favorite McGraw movie…it finished 63rd…Friday Night Lights…..it is hard to argue against Rocky as number one….thanks for reading the page

  5. Bull Durham is too low 🙁 That’s like my favorite sports movie, I watched it with Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon. At any rate, great page, very informative. Useful, awesome, and interesting. 🙂

    1. Thanks for stopping and reading this page CarltheCritic1291….Bull Durham is a classic movie, I do not Susan Sarandon has never looked prettier than in that role….I do not care for Costner, but I will say he does a great job in Bull Durham and Field of Dreams….I appreciate the compliments.
