FYI Part of Page: I think many are thinking about New York City right. This dreadful virus has taken control of the world’s best city and currently the epicenter of the Corona Virus. I can’t help think about one of UMR’s Hall of Famers, Dan. Dan has lived in New York City for a very long time. Dan has shared lots of information on being a movie fan that lives in New York City. So in an effort to get even more information out of Dan, I created this Top 50 New York City Movies page. Ok….it is actually 54 movies, but I did not want to exclude one of my favorites, Quick Change. So New Yorkers…stay safe, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

ooh a good idea for a movie subject, New York’s been one of the most famous and most iconic settings for movies. If you do a second one – San Francisco – a popular choice for filmmakers. Las Vegas and Los Angeles too.
I’ve seen 43 of the 54 films on the chart, not bad. Lots of favorites here including – The Godfather, On the Waterfront, The French Connection, West Side Story, Ghostbusters, Spider-Man, Escape from New York, Rear Window, Goodfellas, 42nd Street, Taxi Driver, Dog Day Afternoon, On the Town, Wall Street, The Wolf of Wall Street, Death Wish and Once Upon a Time in America.
Just popped into my head and missing from the list is any of the three big ‘King Kong’ movies which famously ended with Kong rampaging thru New York. Roland Emmerich’s Godzilla featured New York prominently too.
Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up.
Hey Steve. Glad you like this idea for a page. New York City isn’t all the headlines these days, sadly for all the wrong reasons. I agree San Francisco would be another great city to do a page on. You’re 43 movie seen is slightly behind my total of 51. I seriously thought about including all of the King Kongs on this page, but since the classic one only spend a few minutes in the city I decided not to include it. But I can see people wanted it included. I have seen all of your favorites that you listed. And indeed all are very good movies. I might be re-watching Once Upon A Time In America in the near future. Thanks for the comment.
I tried to send a message of films I have seen, but as I was sending it, the connection was lost.
There are no cases in Chilliwack, but there are elsewhere in the Fraser Valley. Most of B.C.’s cases are in Vancouver in a carer home. B.C. has the second highest cases in Canada behind Ontario.
I have seen 31 movies on this list.
The HIGHEST rated movie I have seen is On the Waterfront.
The highest rated movie I have NOT seen is The Godfather.
The LOWEST rated movie I have seen is Mean Streets.

Hey Flora. Glad there are no cases of corona in your area. My area has several cities in them, most are not reporting many cases. My city has five cases so far. My mom said he only has one. As for these movies, I knew you had not seen the Godfather. 31 movie scene is still pretty good but behind Steve and me. I’ve seen all of your favorites with the exception of The Naked City. One day I will check that one out. Thanks as always for stopping by and sharing your movie knowledge.
You can ride the busses for free now in the city but must enter in the middle of the bus. Passengers have to sit at least 3 seats away from the driver.
A 36 year old principle passed away from it in Brooklyn.
They don’t want people congregating but there were people playing soccer in a few parks around here where I live, with say 30 people participating or watching on Sunday.
My niece’s boss has it, everyone there is working from home.
My wife is consulting students at home here at this moment through Zoom.
I haven’t been at the nursing home I volunteer at in 1 1/2 weeks since all visitors are banned. They, the residents, are not even allowed to see their family there and vice versa.
I’m re-watching old flicks circa 2000 since no cinemas are open and there’s nothing really interesting that I haven’t seen on cable at the moment. Have re-watched 2010’s Clash of the Titans, The Book of Eli (which isn’t that good), The Fantastic Mr, Fox and The A Team. They’re basically background to other things I’m doing. Right now we have Astroboy on, exciting isn’t it.
I think a lot of theaters and restaurants and other small businesses will never return if this is extended.
Oh for trivia, my father’s mother died in the 1918 Influenza pandemic.
Hey Dan….not good trivia….let’s avoid any 2020 information like this….keep safe.
Dan, it sounds like a horrible situation to be in. Do you have the option to leave? Fingers crossed for you and your family.
To Taylor, we’re fine, thank you, not planning on leaving at the moment.
Hey Dan….thanks for the behind the scenes of New York City. I have also gotten used to using Zoom. The teaching profession is being forced into using modern technology. Some of the teachers I know are having difficult time adjusting to the drastic change. Interesting about the buses still running. I have also been watching some old movies recently. Flash Gordon, The Eagle Has Landed to name a few and a few NetFlix movies I have been meaning to watch, and I finally did….Triple Frontier (not very good), Between Two Ferns: The Movie (not good but made me laugh numerous times) and 3032 (low budget sci-fi that was actually NetFlix’s 10th most popular page on Sunday. Thanks for the update. Hope you like this page…..a tribute to New York City. Keep healthy and safe.
I thought Triple Frontier was pretty good. According to the 1010 WINS site (an all news AM radio station in New York City) there are nearly 15,000 cases in NYC and 131 have died. Supposedly 25,000 cases in New York State.
Hey Dan. My letterboxd review on Triple Frontier.
Good cast. Too bad the movie is not worthy of their efforts. I found this one to be very dull. Ben Affleck looks bored in this one. His character arc did not make sense to me. For smart super soldiers…this group makes one bad decision after another. I know “greed” makes people do dumb things…..but not this dumb. Final thought: Likeable cast is given little to work with.
Hey Dan. Those are some horrible numbers. This website is one I have been observing.
