102 Dalmatians Oscar Nominee for Best Costume Design
Thank you Sidney. I have added that missing Oscar nomination….that will move it up 2 spots on the next complete website update. Good eye. You are the man.
How come you stopped providing the actual box office numbers for years after 1999?
Hey Robert. When we originally wrote these yearly reviews…BoxOfficeMojo was free…..so we felt that only showing the adjusted gross would make UMR different from Mojo. Now that Mojo is charging to see their numbers…we will have to look at seeing if we need to adjust our tables to include actual grosses as well. Good question.
I saw 48 including 21 of top 25. 10s and favorites: chocolat, gladiator, castaway, patriot, erin Brockovich. 10 not favorite : traffic. 9s and favorites: space cowboy, whole nine yards. 9 not favorites: snatch, remember the titans, ordinary decent criminal, men of honor, gone in 60 seconds, crouching tiger hidden dragon, what women want. hidden gems: finding forrester, pay it forward, high fidelity, almost famous, tadpole( all 8s). I did not see many but really enjoyed this year. I probably overrated some 9s just from shear enjoyment. over 80 with 70% or higher on UMR review
Hey bob cox….that is a decent drop in tally count from 1999 to 2000….but still 48 is a solid number. I agree with you on Gladiator and Cast Away. Space Cowboys is fun movie…and fun to see that group of actors together. Glad to see High Fidelity on your list of hidden gems. WoC and a watched that one a couple of months ago….WoC really enjoyed that one….I have seen it many times…and liked it each and every time. As always….good feedback.
A new millenium (depending on how you choose to start your decades) and nearly 300 films! Whoa! This might be your longest list so far Bruce.
I’ve seen 74 of the 296 films on the chart. Which means there are 222 movies I didn’t bother to see that year. tsk tsk ‘but… but… I wasn’t interest in them your honor’
Looking at my files I have 82 films from 2000 in my collection.
Favorites include –
Battlefield Earth
Charlie’s Angels
Dinosaur
Emperor’s New Groove ,The
Final Destination
Gladiator
Gone in 60 Seconds
Hollow Man
Meet the Parents
Mission Impossible II
Mission to Mars
Pitch Black
Red Planet
Romeo Must Die
Sexy Beast
Sixth Day ,The
Space Cowboys
Titan A.E.
X-Men
zz-China – Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
zz-Japan – Battle Royale
zz-Japan Anime – Vampire Hunter D – Bloodlust
I must be one of the few people on the planet that lists Battlefield Earth as a favorite. Call it a guilty pleasure movie.
Hmmm there are only 2 top-rated movies on my list of favorites, it does look sometimes that the higher rated a film is… the less likely I’m going to enjoy it.
Top rated films I haven’t seen include (ignoring foreign titles) High Fidelity, Pollocks and Requiem for a Dream.
My most watched films from that year? Probably X-Men, Pitch Black and Mission Impossible II (and my least favorite of that series)
Looking at the box office chart $909m worldwide adjusted for MI-2, Impressive. I wonder if that’s still the biggest grosser of the MI series in adjusted dollars.
Gladiator was huge too. I hope Ridley Scott resists the urge to make a prequel. I’m really fed up with prequels.
Another epic movie year page Bruce. Nice work. Vote Up!
Hey Steve…well my tally only slightly beats your tally. I assumed my tally counts would be getting into the Dan territory…..so I was disappointed by tally did not even reach triple digits. There are so many movies on this list that I do not know…..which is also very surprising.
I have seen all of your favorites except for Vampire Hunter D….I actually own the DVD to Battle Royale…..a very intense movie that makes The Hunger Games look like a Disney G rated movie. 3 of the movies on your favorite list made my Top 10 list.
Mission Impossible 1 actually is the leader when looking at top adjusted worldwide box office….about 20 million higher than MI 2. I had not heard of the Gladiator prequel…..I agree that it does not sound like a good idea….now if Oliver Reed and Richard Harris were still around…I might change my mind.
As for the ones you have missed….Pollock and Requiem for a Dream are both good…but movies I will never re-visit. Requiem for a Dream actually is considered by many as the most depressing movie ever made. Now High Fidelity is worth checking out……I think you would like it….it was written by a British dude…and the book was set in London….John Cusack is awesome in lead role….movie has drama and comedy…and wonderful support from Jack Black, Tim Robbins, Joan Cusack, and Catherine Zeta Jones. Blink and you might miss a cameo by Penny Marshall.
Good feedback as always.
My Top 10 2000 Movies (In ABC Order/Only seen 98 of the listed movies)
The Contender….great drama/thriller….Oscar nominated roles for Bridges and Allen…but Oldman steals the movie
Cast Away…I even like the ending
Gladiator….one of the few Russel Crowe movies I like
High Fidelity….the peak of John Cusack
Meet The Parents….made me laugh out laugh the first time I saw it
Memento…..made me a Christopher Nolan fan
Remember the Titans…..good football movie…Denzel is excellent
Space Cowboys…fun movie with a great cast Clint, Jim, Don and Tom
Unbreakable….good superhero origin movie
The Whole Nine Yards….good comedy…though the Willis bias might be at work
