Ultimate Movie Rankings Contributor Hall of Fame – Say Hello To Sidney Johnson

One of the best things about this website are the people that visit from all over the world.  We have received lots and lots of comments over the years.   Some of those people have been making comments and contributing to the website for years.   As a way to show our appreciation, we have started a UltimateMovieRanking (UMR) Hall of Fame in 2014.   The people that are chosen for our UMR Hall of Fame, have contributed so much to our website.

Well, today it is time to announce the Class of 2022.  In previous years, we have inducted 24 people into our Hall of Fame.  Today, we are announcing one more person.

Our sole honoree this year is Sidney Johnson.  Sidney first started commenting on our pages in 2016.  To be more precise, on April 15th 2016, Sidney commented on our Ice Cube movie page. Since that comment, Sidney has become a Top 15 UMR Commentor with over 400 comments.  Many of his comments have alerted us to errors in our database, which makes UMR an even better website. Lately his comments have transitioned to getting highly acclaimed movies into the database.  His comments are greatly appreciated.  Sidney has earned in his spot in our UltimateMovieRanking Hall of Fame.  Congrats Sidney!

Our 25 UMR Hall Of Famers:

Class of 2014Bern1960, BryRog57, Flora, Søren & Steve Lensman

Class of 2015 –  Chris, Helakoski, Laurent, KtCat94,

Class of 2016 –  Bob, Dan, John, Lyle & SteinHoF16

Class of 2017 –  bob cox, Lupino, Pierre, PhilHoF17

Class of 2018 – George V. & Sunshine

Class of 2019 –  Joel Hirschhorn

Class of 2020 –  WoC & Mike

Class of 2021 –  Taylor

Class of 2022 –  Sidney Johnson

Class of 2014

BERN1960 is one of the first readers of our movie pages.  See read the very first Bruce Willis Hub Page ever written.  She read the pages at Cogerson Movie Score….and she reads the pages at UMR.  Her being my mom has nothing to do with it….lol.

BryRog57 has suggested three of our Top 20 pages of all-time.   Our Pixar vs Dreamworks (top all-time view page), Marvel vs DC (our 2nd most popular page of all-time) and Spielberg vs Cameron (17th all-time) all came from his suggestions.  He is also in our Top 20 commenters of all-time.  He is well deserving of his Hall of Fame status.

Flora is not only one of our best our Canadian commenters but one of our best commenters period! She is a huge Gregory Peck and Richard Widmark fan. We found each other on HubPages almost a decade ago.  She was our top commenter at Hub Pages…Top 3 here at UMR.  Her classic movie knowledge is among the best here at UMR.

Søren is another HubPage alumni….he has been making comments and suggestions since 2011.  It is always nice when he pops up every now and then.  We suspect he might occasionally be going under the name “In The Shadows” in the comment sections.

Steve and I have been commenting on each other’s web pages since 2011. Our combined comments have reached over 10,000! Steve and I befriended each other when we were both active members at HubPages. On our second website…Cogerson MovieS core.com…..it was often just the me and Steve commenting on my latest movie pages. Steve was involved in the naming of this website. He talked us out of naming it ….”Ultimate Movie Ranker”…because it sounded too much like “Wanker”…which is apparently not a good thing in London. Steve was the last person to comment on CMS.com and the second person (WoC was first) to comment on UMR.com. So Steve…just want to tell you something…..THANK YOU for all the time you have given our movie pages….it is greatly appreciated.

Class of 2015

Chris makes great UMR subject requests and provides well thought out and interesting comments on most of our pages

Helakoski, we think is one of our youngest readers here.  She has been a trooper when it comes to our classic pages, but it is the current pages that she likes the best.  For almost 4 years, she has steadily been commenting on our pages, as well as providing mini-reviews for the last movies in theaters.

KtCat94 also goes by the name of DoC1 (Daughter of Cogerson 1).  She has been providing editing advice for our pages for years…rarely complaining about it.    She probably shares our movie pages on Facebook more than anybody else.    Laurent is a fellow classic movie gross treasure hunter….he made our USC Warner Brother ledger trip even more successful with his sharing of information.  He has been sharing his 1920s box office pages with us for the last few years.

Class of 2016

Bob is our Brando/Crawford/Ladd/Durbin and billing expert – he has been reading our pages for years….but stepped out of the shadows in 2016 and started commenting…he might be more aware of what is on our website than we do.

Dan is our Kevin Bacon Oracle expert……he posts tons of information that help add to our pages….his movie databases put our movie databases to shame.

John was our Gary Cooper expert…..he made great UMR movie subject suggestions….his vast movie knowledge especiallly when it comes to color versus black and white movies was a welcome addition to our website.  Sadly John has gone silent over the last year or so.

Stein is one of the most prolific commenters on the page.  I guess I should mention, that as soon as he was inducted into our Hall Of Fame he became SteinHoF16.  Apparently you get more money when you sign your name with the HoF at the end.   Always wondered who he gave his autograph to.

Lyle used to account for almost 10% of all the new UMR pages which came from his requests.  He has been providing awesome comments for many years.  Over the years his requests have slowed since his Hall of Fame induction.

Class of 2017

bob cox, the bob from USA not to be confused with Bob from Ireland.  Also known as lower case bob.  bob cox has been a Top 5 commenter since finding the website a few years ago.  His insight has been a welcome addition to our website.   An added bonus is that he is a sports fan too.

Lupino has become our voice from Germany. Lupino is a movie watching machine.  His favorite thespians include Sylvia Sidney and Margaret Sullavan.  Lupino has had some awesome comments over the years.  Hoping for a speedy recovery for Lupino.

Phil S. is our great explorer…..as he has found and commented on many of our “forgotten” UMR pages.   I agree with almost every comment Phil has produced.  Which means he is a very smart movie person.  Phil is another HOFer that now comments using his much deserved HOF status……PhilHoF17.

Pierre is  one of our main voices from France.  I easily picture Pierre, at the end of the day, sipping some fine wine on a outdoor balcony reading movie pages on UMR.  That seems like such a relaxing scene.

Class of 2018

Over the years, George has been a great supporter of this website.  I would bet more people at work have heard about UMR from him more than me.  George does not comment too often, but he does read the comments on a regularly basis.  George has made many suggestions over the years…..all have been great ones…..but one in particular really changed how things look here at UMR.    George is the reason we have “trailer pages” on the website.  That has not only provided lots of views for us, but allows us to get more information on a movie out there.   So we are happy to induct George into our UMR Hall of Fame.

Sunshine has been one of the most consistent commenters on our pages.  At Hub Pages she was our 3rd most frequent commenter.   During our Cogerson Movie Score.com days she was one of the few people that commented at all.   At UMR, she does not comment as much, but she still ranks in the Top 20 of UMR commenters.  For all that Sunshine has done for us, we are happy to say….welcome to our Hall of Fame.  Thanks for everything Linda.

Class of 2019

Joel Hirschhorn sadly passed away in the mid-1990s but his influence on UMR has been great. His book, Rating The Movie Stars, is one of the reasons our website looks the way it does.  We figured those contributions was worthy of a spot in our UMR Hall of Fame.

Class of 2020

Our first honoree is Mike.  Make has been making suggestions and pointing out errors on the website for a longtime.  In 2020, Mike stepped up his game and started researching box office grosses for use on UMR.com.  His research has greatly increased the amount of movies in our database and on our website.  He has completed this research by using old Variety magazines to add up all the actual box office grosses in the Top 20 cities.  His hard and very time consuming work has helped earn Mike a well deserved spot in our UltimateMovieRanking Hall of Fame.

Our second honoree is WoC or Wife of Cogerson or Debbie.  Just like the fact that she goes by many names, she does so much behind the scenes at UltimateMovieRankings.  Without her incredible knowledge, generosity and great ideas there is no way UMR would have grown as well as it has.  As we approach our 10 year mark of ranking movies on the internet…it is safe to say…..this little “hobby” of mine would have only lasted 10 WEEKS without her.  A honor well deserved and way past due.

Class of 2021

Taylor first started commenting on our pages in 2013 when the website was called CogersonMovieScore.com.  Taylor is a Top 15 UMR Commentor. Taylor even started contributing pages to UMR in 2021.  To date he now has 4 pages on our little website. His hard and very time-consuming work has helped earn Taylor a well-deserved spot in our UltimateMovieRanking Hall of Fame.

So now that we have 23 members in our Hall of Fame….thinking it is time to figure out what we want our UMR HOF building to look like.  Leaning towards the Enterprise one.  Raising funds to break ground and start construction.

  1. Congratulations to Sunshine and George V for joining the ranks of this esteemed club of UMR! I think there are some perks to being part of this group….but Cogerson is still thinking what these are 🙂

    1. Hey PhilHoF17….I was just commenting back to your Voight comment….and here you are. As for the perks….WoC was thinking UMR coffee cups to the UMR Hall Of Famers…..what do you think of that suggestion? Not being a coffee drinker….it does not sound like good swag to me. We have slowly been producing some UMR swag…..besides bumper stickers and such. Actually talking with Amazon about doing something with the logo and merchandise.

I do want to do profiles on all the HoFers…..just ran out of time in 2018……but now that we have this website page for them….thinking a page for each Hall of Fame class. Thinking questions like.
      1. Favorite actors and actresses.
      2. Favorite movies.
      3. First movie or any movie memory. Mine is going to the theater without my parents (went my friend’s mom) to see Disney’s Robin Hood…..I felt like I was getting older.
      4. How you discovered UMR.
      5. Maybe share some general information….like age and general area.
Basically things that will, let people get a better idea of the person behind the name.

Speaking of George…..one of his movie memories……is him and his buddies….cleaning up a football stadium so they could earn enough money to see the latest Pam Grier movie.

      Good stuff.

      1. Thanks Bruce, I was of course just kidding, but it’s very nice of you and WoC to be considering such rewards for your loyal followers. However, it may be sufficient for now to enjoy our new star 🙂 Perhaps one perk could be to treat requests from HoFers on a priority basis or something of that nature. And yes, eventually doing some profiles may be interesting. Several of us already shared lists of our favorite actors and actresses earlier this year, and the other questions you suggest sound good. By the way, one of my early memories of going to a movie theater without adults is sneaking in to see Halloween (the original) because I was just short of 14 years…I actually entered the theater by mistake following a friend, but once I was there…hey what could I do?

        1. HI PHIL

Good, thoughtful posts from you and a happy new year. One caution though – beware of “just kidding”.

I come out with very humorous stuff all the time on this site but often it’s taken deadly seriously and some guys then get on their high Horse – no pun intended

My conclusions therefore are (1) my humour is too subtle (2) some others don’t have a sense of humour or (3) my own sense of humour is “strange”.

Still as both you and I made the Hall of Fame we must be doing something right, though I might well be No 1 in the Hall if I didn’t “tell it as it is” about Joel Hirschhorn and Myrna Loy. Probably what saves me is that Sir Maurice Micklewhite [aka Michael Caine] is an idol of mine and I admire Grant and Willis

          1. Hi Bob,
Thanks for the tip, and best wishes for the new year as well!
Humour is both a personal and cultural thing. I think that having traveled and lived briefly in the British isles in my younger days helps me catch and appreciate most of the humour in your posts, though I admit that some it may go over my head, and sometimes, it’s not evident to me whether you are serious or joking. However, you make so many interesting points, whether ironic or serious that it’s always worth reading…even if the ghosts of Myrna Loy and Joel Hirschhorn may feel differently!
            Phil

  2. I like how you have this is set up. Congratulations to George V. and Sunshine. I do indeed like the trailer pages.

    1. Thank you R. Hinders….it is a fun page…..and a way to thank the people that have been so supportive to the website…..WoC wants to send all of the Hall of Famers some UMR swag….like coffee cups. You keep up the comments….you might be in the club too….lol.

      1. I prefer bumper stickers. free advertising!!!!!!!!!! The Bob is in real trouble, I get his sense of humor. we should all be very concerned for him because of that. I am a lost cause, I love to laugh. I could use a sense of humor coach and a dance instructor . oh , I have Cogerson. never mind.

        1. HI BOB COX

Actually I always found the dry humour of straight men like Bud Abbot and Dean Martin funnier that the, to me, silly/slapstick type antics of the likes of Lou Costello and Jerry Lewis.

          1. Hey Bob…I am right there with you. I let the subtle humor versus slapstick humor. Give me Hugh Grant’s humor of Adam Sandler’s humor any day of the week.

        2. Hey bob cox….thanks for the input. Bob and Steve appear to have different types of humor….but I appreciate both styles. Thanks as always for the input.

    2. HI PHIL

      I liked your response.

In the British Isles we don’t all have the same sense of humour. For example if you think in terms of Abbott and Costello, I’d be Lou the funny one and the likes of Steve Lensman would be Bud the straight man.

      Anyway take care.

  3. I am honored to be one of your UMR Hall of Fame Contributors. I did not realize I was your top commentator when I was at Hubpages. Thanks for the shout out!

    1. Congrats Sunshine….good to hear from you….hope your recovery is going well. Thanks for all the support you provided over the years.

  4. HAPPY NEW YEAR BRUCE! Hey, I am honored to be one of your Hall of Famers. I have enjoyed your facts and all the interesting information I have learned over the years. Congratulations on your book too……………….LOOKING FORWARD TO 2019 on your site. LOL VERY PROUD OF YOU SON!
