  1. From the Hollywood Reporter (she was in a few movies)

Linda Cristal, Actress on ‘The High Chaparral,’ Dies at 89

The Buenos Aires-born star also appeared on the big screen in ‘The Alamo,’ ‘Two Rode Together’ and ‘Mr. Majestyk.’
Linda Cristal, the Golden Globe-winning actress who portrayed Victoria Cannon, the wife of Leif Erickson’s character, on the 1967-71 NBC Western The High Chaparral, has died. She was 89.
Cristal died Saturday at her home in Beverly Hills, her son Jordan Wexler told The New York Times.
On the big screen, Cristal appeared with Jock Mahoney in The Last of the Fast Guns (1958), with John Wayne in The Alamo (1960), with James Stewart in John Ford’s Two Rode Together (1961) and with Charles Bronson in Mr. Majestyk (1974).
In 1959, she won her first Golden Globe — as most promising newcomer (female) — for her turn as an Argentine beauty who takes a trip to Paris with Tony Curtis’ character in the comedy The Perfect Furlough (1958), directed by Blake Edwards.
According to her 2019 memoir, A Life Unexpected, Cristal read about a new series being shot called The High Chaparral one morning in The Hollywood Reporter and barged into a meeting of studio execs led by David Dortort, creator of the show (as well as Bonanza).
She went on to appear on 96 episodes of The High Chaparral as the strong-willed daughter of a powerful Mexican rancher and young wife of Erickson’s “Big John” Cannon. She was nominated for two Globes, winning in 1970, and two Emmys, for her performance.
Marta Victoria Moya was born in Buenos Aires on Feb. 23, 1931, and raised in Uruguay. When she was 13, her parents died of carbon monoxide poisoning while in their car. She appeared in several Mexican films before working alongside Dana Andrews in Comanche (1956).
Her résumé also included the films The Fiend Who Walked the West (1958) and Panic in the City (1968), a run on the soap opera General Hospital and guest-starring stints on such TV shows as Rawhide, Bonanza, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Barnaby Jones and Fantasy Island.
She was married to industrialist Robert W. Champion, half-brother of dancer Gower Champion, from 1958-59 and to actor Yale Wexler, with whom she had sons Gregory and Jordan, from 1960-66.

    1. Hey Dan….good information on the late Linda Cristal. I did not recognize the name…but after reading your comment…her image popped into my head. Rest in Peace Linda Cristal.

  2. From Variety

Joel Schumacher, costume designer-turned-director of films including “St. Elmo’s Fire,” “The Lost Boys” and “Falling Down,” as well as two “Batman” films, died in New York City on Monday morning after a year-long battle with cancer. He was 80.
Schumacher brought his fashion background to directing a run of stylish films throughout the 1980s and 1990s that were not always critically acclaimed, but continue to be well-loved by audiences for capturing the feel of the era.
Schumacher was handed the reins of the “Batman” franchise when Tim Burton exited Warner Bros.’ Caped Crusader series after two enormously successful films. The first movie by Schumacher, “Batman Forever,” starring Val Kilmer, Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carrey and Nicole Kidman, grossed more than $300 million worldwide.
Schumacher’s second and last film in the franchise was 1997’s “Batman and Robin,” with George Clooney as Batman and Arnold Schwarzenegger as villain Mr. Freeze.

  3. London (CNN)British actor Ian Holm has died at the age of 88, according to a statement from his agent.
Holm had a long and varied acting career that saw him cast as a slew of characters, including Bilbo Baggins in the “Lord of the Rings” movie trilogy, Ash in Ridley Scott’s “Alien” and athletics coach Sam Mussabini in the 1981 movie “Chariots of Fire,” a performance for which he was nominated for an Oscar.
Born in Essex, southeast England, in 1931, Holm attended the RADA drama school in London.
After forging a successful career on the stage, Holm moved into television and later movie acting.

Holm also played Father Vito Cornelius in “The Fifth Element” (1997) and Professor Fitz in “The Aviator” (2004).
In 1989 he was named Commander of the British Empire (CBE) and in 1998 he was knighted for services to drama.
His death sparked a wave of tributes online.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) tweeted its respects.

      1. Sad news. Rest In Peace Sir Holmes. I will see if I can figure out a way to get Sir Ian some UMR love. I might have to do it old school and just manually put some movies by his name.

  4. Vera-Ellen had died at the age of 103. Best known for singing We’ll Meet Again, ” she was one of the few actresses who danced with both Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. Her best known film was On The Town. Rest in Peace

    1. Thanks for sharing this information. Rest in peace. For some reason this comment went to the approve section…I approved it with the help of WoC and her vast computer skills.

    2. Dame Vera Lynn died yesterday at 103, not Vera-Ellen. Vera-Ellen from White Christmas passed in 1981 at 60. Vera Lynn was the first British act to have a # 1 song in America, back in 1952. She was also the last person living to have a song on the first U.K. music chart in 1952. Vera had a # 1 album over in the U.K. when she was 100 (like a greatest hits album). She was big in the U.K. during WW II.

      1. I have always mixed up the two names. Oops! I did try to delete the comment but it went through anyway. RIP Vera Lynn

  5. (CNN)Indian actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai residence on Sunday, according to a statement from Mumbai police. He was 34.
Mumbai police say he took his own life, and an investigation is underway.
The actor made his debut in Hindi cinema in 2013 in “Kai Po Che!,” according to the film site IMDb. He was awarded best actor (male) at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne in 2017 for his movie “M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story,” in which he played Indian cricket star Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

He also played the role of Manav in the TV series Pavitra Rishta, or Sacred Ties, from 2009 to 20.

Don’t know he is also but he’s headlines on CNN.

    1. Hey Dan. Thanks for sharing this information on Sushant Singh Rajput. Sad news of his passing, and even sadder that he took his own life. I am not aware of any of the movies you listed. I will have to check them out. RIP Sushant Singh Rajput.
