Hey Flora….thanks for checking out our Vic Morrow page. Tally count: Bob 7, Flora 6 and me 5. Looks like you have seen the best of Vic Morrow’s movies…if you have seen that many of his top rated UMR movies. I have seen 4 of the ones you have seen. I would put Bad News Bears as my favorite….with Blackboard Jungle being a close second. Good stuff as always.
Vic Morrow has always reminded me as being a bit like Ralph Meeker in physical appearance. I have seen 7 of the films in the tables above: Tribute to a Badman; Posse; King Creole; Deathwatch; Joel’s Little Acre and Men in War [both top-starring the 1950s screen team of Robert Ryan and Aldo Ray but The Work Horse giving Aldo credit for just one of the pair]; and two with Charlie Bill Stuart – Cimarron and the classic Blackboard Jungle which exploited the rock n roll craze of the time and made Charlie Bill a 1950s megastar.
One, two, three o’clock, four o’clock rock
Five, six, seven o’clock, eight o’clock rock
Nine, ten, eleven o’clock, twelve o’clock rock
We’re gonna rock around the clock tonight.
When the chimes ring five, six, and seven
We’ll be right in seventh heaven
We’re gonna rock around the clock tonight
We’re gonna rock, rock, rock, ’till broad daylight
We’re gonna rock, gonna rock around the clock tonight.
[Sung by Bill Hayley and The Comets]
As the Work Horse illustrates in his tables Vic directed Deathwatch and Leonard Nimoy of Star Trek starred in it. As well as that Vic and Leonard co-produced the movie and Vic co-wrote the script.
Good miniature above from Blackboard Jungle with Vic looking very young-Brandoesque; and is that young Poitier sitting beside Vic as the photo and WH’s co- star link column might suggest? As he often does WH takes “poetic license” by billing Sidney above the star of the movie Charlie Bill in the link column..
Despite the latter sacrilege “Voted Up!” as a page for a worthy subject. It is reported that Vic left behind a net worth equivalent to about $2.9 million in today’s money.
Hey Bob. Thanks for the thoughts on Vic Morrow (another Joel subject completed). Tally count..7 for you….and five for me. Speaking of Aldo Ray, he is one of the remaining Joel subjects to write about..currently the number is down to 41. So I know you want to know…that is 369 done….41 to go.
Good lyrics from Bill Hayley. I almost forgot Deathwatch….a movie I had never heard of before…but luckily I caught it before I database broke. That is indeed the young Sidney in the background in the Blackboard Jungle photo. I have switched Glenn and Sidney in the UMR Co-Star column. Good information on his networth. Good stuff as always.
HI BRUCE:
Thanks for the feedback and the “switch”: I am the least of your worries as Flora too might not have liked it had Charlie Bill not been given the billing to which he was entitled!!!
“Speaking of Aldo Ray, he is one of the remaining Joel subjects to write about.” Cogerson today.
I wonder what Aldo would have thought of THAT as his epitaph!
Hey Bob….he would probably say something about saving the best for the last. The database allows changes like that…..things that require a single movie….but currently the complete update..when it updates about 25,000 movies is stuck….and not working. A single newly imported movie…..causes many many changes to the database….lots of my research and Mike’s is stuck on the bridge between the database and the website..hoping we get it fixed tonight and hope it does not completely crash. Good stuff as always.
Excellent UMR page
Thanks Mike…we are working on fixing our issues on the website….WoC requested a page…and I pulled out this Vic Morrow page….but we had to do a lot of manual data entry to get this page done correctly. Still have some work to do.
