Possibly Interesting Facts About Ving Rhames

1. Irving Rameses Rhames was born in Harlem, New York City in 1959.

2. Ving Rhames was named after NBC journalist Irving R. Levine.

3. Ving Rhames discovered his love of acting while attending New York’s High School of Performing Arts.

4. Fellow acting student, Stanley Tucci, gave Rhames his nickname “Ving”

5. Ving Rhames won a Golden Globe® in 1998 for best actor in a TV miniseries for his performance in HBO’s Don King: Only in America (1997). At the ceremony Rhames gave his award to Jack Lemmon, saying “I feel that being an artist is about giving, and I’d like to give this to you.” Lemmon was clearly touched by the gesture, as was the celebrity audience, who gave Lemmon a standing ovation. Lemmon, who tried unsuccessfully to give the award back to Rhames, said it was “one of the sweetest moments I’ve ever known in my life.”

6. Ving Rhames is the only actor besides Tom Cruise to be in all the Mission Impossible movies (1996-2018).

7. Ving Rhames says people are often surprised that he isn’t bigger in person, as he stands a little bit less than 6 feet tall and weighs a little over 200 pounds.

8. There are lots of theories about the band-aid on the back of Ving’s head in 1994’s Pulp Fiction.  So what does the band-aid really means?  It meant that Ving cut his head while shaving and used the band-aid to cover it up.  Quentin Tarantino thought it looked good, kept in the movie and the theories started floating in.

1994’s Pulp Fiction…..the most famous band-aid in movie history?

9. Ving Rhames has been the voice in Arby’s “We have the meats!” promotional campaign since 2015, and not, as often incorrectly thought, James Earl Jones.

    1. Hey Dan. Thanks for the information, visit, comment and trivia lists. I think, I used to get Ving mixed up with Bill “Predator” Duke….especially the first time I saw Pulp Fiction when his first scene is from the back of his head. I thought it was the Predator guy until we finally see him later in the movie. So Ving almost cracks the Top 300…..pretty darn good! Not surprised his most frequent Oracle co-star is Tom Cruise…..pretty sure they are making parts 7 and 8 in the near future. I saw a photo of Cruise with the MI cast….he is starting to show some age….granted…I am throwing that rock from my glass house…lol. Looking at the second list…26 Oscar winning co-stars is low…but will go up once his Pulp Fiction cast mates start winning some Oscars….lol. Good stuff as always.

  2. Alright alright alright…..as Matthew McConaughey would say.

    1. This page comes from our newly installed database on a new computer, a new server, and a new backup system.
    2. Granted not all the bugs have been worked out…..but a new page using the new equipment means we will get back on track…..granted this was a very expensive fix…..but don’t worry….we are paying the entire bill for you….lol.
    3. I was actually watching Ving in Baby Boy just last night….so when the time came for a new subject he popped into my head.
    4. We had 26 of his movies already in the database….but we researched another 40 of his movies using that new program.
    5. Overall I have seen 35 of his movies. Pulp Fiction is an all-time favorite. Con-Air is a fun popcorn movie. He is one of the parts I really enjoy in the M.I. movies.
    6. Now we go back to the UMR lab to get all those bugs fixed.
