1. Walter Davis Pidgeon was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada in 1897.

2. Fred Astaire heard Walter Pidgeon singing at a party while appearing with an amateur company in Boston and got him an agent.  Pidgeon would first gain fame for his singing voice in some of the first sound musicals ever made.

3. Greer Garson played the wife of Walter Pidgeon a total of eight times; in 1941’s Blossoms in the Dust,1942’s Mrs. Miniver,1943’s Madame Curie, 1944’s Mrs. Parkington, 1948’s Julia Misbehaves , 1950’s The Miniver Story, 1949’s That Forsyte Woman and 1953’s  Scandal at Scourie.  They also both appeared in 1943’s The Youngest Profession.

    1 Actually Glenn Ford is on record in a TV interview that I watched live as saying that he is definitely NOT ORIGINALLY from Canada. I will explain that to you in detail when Bruce does his update on Glenn’s grosses and I post the response that I plan.

  2. I always enjoyed his movies as he was a good actor. Did not know he was another Canadian. For some reason I thought he was English – not sure why! I have seen quite a few of his movies and I enjoyed his role in The Last Time I Saw Paris with Elizabeth Taylor and Van Johnson. That was a very good movie but sad as well. I did not know that he made that many movies. THANKS AGAIN FOR THE INFORMATION ON THIS SITE.

    1. Hey BERN1960. Seems that every actor or actress I write about these days turns out to be a Canadian. I have not seen The Last Time I Saw Paris….,but I will check it out. He made many many movies during his career. The benefit of being an easy going actor….he could easily play any role. Thanks for stopping by.

      PS. Somebody in our family met Walter Pidgeon once. He was walking alone on an unknown beach….and the somebody talked to him. I thought it was your mom…..but since you are not aware of that….maybe it was dad’s mom. A mystery that might never be resolved….thanks for the visit and the comment.

    This is fantastic!

    How Green Was My Valley is in my top five. This movie is about working class Families throughout the world; fathers who take time from long hard working days to raise their Families right and true; Mothers who toil endlessly, love their children without condition and infuse their Family with strength and virtue. Modestly and with modest means.

    I come from a Family just like that. From rural Québec every member of our Family toiled, loved and evinced a loyalty towards each other without bounds.
