Want to know the best William Hurt movies? How about the worst William Hurt movies? Curious about William Hurt box office grosses or which William Hurt movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which William Hurt movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.
William Hurt (1950-2022) was an Oscar®-winning actor. His IMDb page shows 106 acting credits from 1977 to 2022. This page will rank William Hurt movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in theaters were not included in the rankings. Drivel part. I decided to do this page after reading Phil’s comment on our 1980s decade that said “the only major movie star from the 1980s that does not have a UMR page is William Hurt”…..well….no more. As we now have a William Hurt page.

Sad news. I was shocked to read about William Hurt’s death, so unexpected. R.I.P.
I think I’ll watch Ken Russell’s Altered States during the week as a tribute.
I have seen 3 of William Hurt’s movies. I enjoy The Big Chill and The Accidental Tourist. I have also seen Gorky Park. Rest in peace.
I have seen 40 of the 60 movies listed below…or 66%. I would have guessed my tally would have been higher. RIP Mr. Hurt.
I’ve seen 44 of Mr. Hurt’s films, the highest rated I haven’t seen is Sunshine. The Accidental Tourist and Captain America also made my top 10’s of the year.
Oscar winner William Hurt has passed at 71.
From TV InsiderActor William Hurt, who won an Oscar and was nominated for another three, has passed away at the age of 71.
“It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday,” his son, Will said, according to Deadline. “He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time.”
Hurt won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 1986 for his work as Luis Molina in Kiss of the Spider Woman. He was also nominated in the same category in 1987 for Children of a Lesser God and 1988 for Broadcast News (making for three consecutive nominations) and then again in 2006 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for A History of Violence.
His other film credits included playing Secretary of State Thaddeus Ross in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Black Widow. He also starred in The King’s Daughter, The Last Full Measure, Lost in Space, Altered States, and The Good Shepherd.
Hey Dan. Thanks for the heads up on his passing. I have been a fan of his since the early 1980s as Body Heat, Eyewitness and Altered States were influential movies on the teenaged Cogerson. Granted I never understood what was going on in Altered States…but it still held my interest. I remember rooting for him to get his 4th straight Best Actor Oscar nomination for The Doctor. That followed the previous three years that saw him get nominations for Broadcast News (my favorite Hurt role), Children of the Lesser God and his Oscar winning performance in Kiss of the Spider Woman (one of my least favorite Hurt roles). It always seemed to me that his leading man role days diminished after not getting a nomination for The Doctor. Rest in peace William Hurt.
My first 10 best films list was in 1980 and Altered States was my best film of the year. In 1981 Body Heat was my # 2 after Raiders of the Lost Ark.
