William Shatner Movies

Want to know the best William Shatner movies?  How about the worst William Shatner movies?  Curious about William Shatner box office grosses or which William Shatner movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which William Shatner movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

William Shatner (1931-) is a Canadian actor, director, writer and producer.  Shatner became a cultural icon for his portrayal of Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise in the Star Trek franchise.  He has been appearing in movies for over 60 years.   Shatner’s IMDb page shows over 240 acting credits since 1951.    This page will rank William Shatner movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in North American and a handful of his movies that we could not find box office on, were not included in the rankings.

Drivel part of page…Cogerson folklore:  UMR Hall of Famer Bern1960 also known as MoC (Mom of Cogerson) has always suspected that she and William Shatner went on a few dates.  They were both young and both lived in the Notre-Dame-de-Grace (NDG) section of Montreal, Quebec.  Shatner was known as “Billy” back then and went to the same high school as her brother (the late Ken Peladeau).  Bern1960 told me that she had just written a letter to Shatner and mentioned this website in the letter. I realized that I should probably do a page on Billy….just in case he checked out the website after reading her letter.

Best IMDb Trivia on William Shatner

1. Shortly after the original Star Trek (1966) series was canceled, his wife Gloria Rand left him and took a lot of money with her. With very little money and his acting prospects low, he lived in a pick-up truck camper until continually acting in bit parts led into higher-paying roles.

2. His clipped, dramatic delivery of his lines, peppered with dramatic pauses, is often referred to as “Shatnerian”.

3. According to Debra Hill, a Halloween mask in Shatner’s likeness was painted white and used as the mask of Michael Myers in the original Halloween (1978).

4.  His favorite Star Trek (1966) episode is Star Trek: The Devil in the Dark (1967).

  1. Wahey! William Shatner gets a UMR page at last! Thanks for the video share Bruce. I haven’t watched that video since I uploaded it. Maybe I should watch some of my old videos and just pretend someone else created them. 🙂

I’ve seen 21 of the 35 films listed. Favorites include- all the Star Treks, Dodgeball, Airplane II, Escape from Planet Earth and Loaded Weapon 1.

I haven’t seen Judgment at Nuremberg in years, need to give it another spin.

Good to see Star Trek II top his Star Trek films, no real surprise there. It’s my 2nd favorite of the 7 he starred in. My no.1 is still the first Trek movie, “The Motionless Picture” as some have unfairly dubbed it. It’s my most watched, well over 100 times, and the most cinematic of the first 10 movies. I also love Jerry Goldsmith’s epic music score.

    Nice work Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve. As always thanks for the visit, comment and tally count. We have both seen 21 of his movies. Interesting that you have seen Star Trek:The Motion Picture that many times. Bern1960 loves that movie and might have seen it even more times than you. Wrath of Khan and The Voyage Home are my favorite Star Trek original cast movies. Star Trek with Chris Pine would round out my Top 3. Judgement at Nuremberg is a great movie but not one that begs to be rewatched. We agree on Loaded Weapon. I think it is one of the better spoof movies. Nice shout to Mr. Jerry. Good stuff.

  2. Thanks son for doing a William Shatner page. It will be interesting to see if I get a
reply this time as I wrote many many years ago and did not get a reply. He has
made some good movies and I am definitely a Star Trek fan. Interesting on how
much those Star Trek movies made. I, too, have seen him on TV as well. Bern1960
THANKS AGAIN. Will let you know if I do hear from him.

    1. Hey mom, you writing that letter to him, got me motivated to write this page. Hopefully you’ll hear from them this time. I suspect he’s fan mail is not as much as it was during his peak Star Trek days. His Star Trek movies do not compare to the Star Wars movies when looking at box office…but they are still very impressive. Fingers crossed that he reads your letter.

  3. Finally a William Shatner page! Thanks Bern!

    1. Hey Flora. Yeah we finally got around to doing a William Shatner page. I think the fact that he’s more of a television star than a movie star is the main reason it took so long for him to get paste here. Tally count: Steve and myself are at 21 and you have 16 in your Shatner movie watching resume. Seen all of your favorites with the exception of the Brothers K. He looks like a baby in that included trailer. Khan is one of my favorites too. Glad you enjoyed a page on one of your fellow Canadians. As always great feedback.

  4. Khhhhhaaaaaasnnnnnn! Love Shat. I think I knew him more as TJ Hooker than Captain Kirk when I was growing up. Enjoyable new page.

      1. Hey Flora. Good to know that you enjoyed his T.J. Hooker. I think the episode I saw was when Leonard Nimoy appeared on the show. Good stuff.

    1. Hey Taylor. Interesting that you grew up with TJ Hooker and for me it was the reruns of Star Trek that I became aware of James Kirk/William Shatner. Obviously, in my house, through my mom, we watched a ton of Star Trek. Good feedback as always.
