Possibly Interesting Facts About Winona Ryder
1. Winona Laura Horowitz was born in Winona, Minnesota in 1971. Her stage name derives from Mitch Ryder, a soul and rock singer of whom her father was a fan.
2. Winona Ryder’s real hair color is blonde but when she made her first major film Lucas (1986), her hair color was dyed black. She was told to keep it that color and with the exception of Edward Scissorhands (1990), it has stayed that color since.
3. Winona Ryder dedicated the film Little Women (1994) to Polly Klaas, a young girl from her hometown of Petaluma, California, who was kidnapped and brutally murdered. She offered a $200,000 reward for anyone with information on the subject and remains a strong supporter of the Polly Klaas Foundation.
4. Winona Ryder says Sarah Miles’ performance in Ryan’s Daughter (1970) inspired her to become a professional actress.
5. Winona Ryder is only six years older than her Star Trek (2009) co-star Zachary Quinto, who plays her son in the movie. She was cast as Spock’s mother Amanda because the opening scene originally featured her giving birth to Spock. However, the scene was deleted and replaced with a more action-packed scene. Incidentally, Captain James T. Kirk’s mother in the movie is named Winona.

I love her!
Hey GoC1…..she has had a great career….I will be adding her new movie to the table on tomorrow. That movie is called Gone in the Night and it is getting some decent reviews. It opened in limited theaters on Friday, July 15th.
Stay Cool, The Darwin Awards and the Last Word were never realese commercially in United States. Just in festivals.
Sex and Death 101 was realese in Festivals and in theatres.
Destination Wedding and 101 were “much more succesful” outside US.
According to box office mojo made https://www.boxofficemojo.com/title/tt0497972/credits/?ref_=bo_tt_tab Sex and Death 101 made $1,229,330 (Mostly in Italy) only 23.624 in US
Destination Wedding at the same time was realese in thatres and VOD, were was much more succesful.
There was not an official gross in box office mojo in Us And Canada. Even when had a theatrical and commercial realese (the same thing could said about half of now at days movies realese including The Irishman).-
But internationally were realese in UK, Russia, Ukraine among others. The gross according to box office mojo was at least $2,182,965 (because in most of the countries, only count the first week).
Unfortunataly today is difficult to consult international box office mojo numbers, yesterday was much more easier.-
Hey Hugo….good information….one of the latest updates to UMR is including movies that only opened played in film festivals or limited release. In those cases…I put the box office gross at the lowest total I can include that my program will register so it can be included on the tables. I am updated her page tomorrow and I will get those labels included in her table. Thanks again for the heads up on the movies you mentioned.
Added Steve’s Winona Ryder video to this page. Out thoughts on his video and her career found below.
Nice video. I have seen 27 of the 32 movies. Favorites would include #5 Beetlejuice…fun movie. #1 Edward Scissorhands….Burton’s best?. #8 Heathers…probably my favorite Winona movie. #20 Homefront….a Jason Statham movie this is actually good. Voted up. Shared at
Hi Bruce, another great tally from the UMR boss, I’ve seen 15 of the 32 listed here.
I haven’t seen Heathers in ages, should give it another look. Homefront was an above average Statham actioner. Edward Scissorhands might be ‘the’ classic Tim Burton movie, is it his highest rated? On your website it is.
Thanks for the comment, vote and share, always appreciated.
Nicely done UMR page on Winona.

!/***Winona credits Marlon Brando with the inspiration for her performance in this movie -see my post at 7.31am Jun 18 below. I therefore think that Marlon should be given a share of Winona’s review ratings and Cogerson grosses for this film.
2/STEVE and The BIG BOY agree on 4 of Winona’s Top 6 Best reviewed movies. I wholeheartedly agree with WH’s inclusion of Age of Innocence in his Top 6 – one of the ‘classiest’ movies I have ever seen from my viewpoint. Unusual stuff from Scorsese in comparison with gritty stuff like Goodfellows/The Departed/Shutter Island /Wolf of Wall Street etc. Age of Innocence is a beautiful piece of bitter-sweet telling about social manners. Scorsese favourites DeNiro and Pesci must have been kept well away from the script – little or no swearing if I remember correctly
Hey Bob…as always….good feedback on Steve’s video and in this case Winona Ryder’s movies.
