Cogerson Review of Wonder Woman
Why I watched this one? Heard great things about this movie. And I finally got a chance to see this blockbuster…..granted it took almost 2 months for me to finally get to the theater to see it.
What is this one about? Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained warrior. When a pilot (Chris Pine) crashes and tells of conflict in the outside world, she leaves home to fight a war, discovering her full powers and true destiny.
My thoughts on this one? Halfway through this movie, I thought this one had a chance to be in the same class as The Dark Knight, Guardians of the Galaxy and Superman 2 as my all-time favorite superhero movies. The second half did not hold up as well….which caused it to fail to reach those lofty heights in my mind.
The first half takes place on the island of Amazons and when they first reach London. The second half bogs down when the movie decides to add numerous new characters to the plot. First you get the Wonder Woman entourage and then you get some military leaders that do not really offer much besides slowing down the movie. As much as I enjoyed the first part…..and got somewhat bored in the second part.
Gadot and Pine are excellent in their roles. I also enjoyed Robin Wright and Connie Nielsen in their supporting roles. The villains were ok at best. Danny Huston moves from being a bad guy in the Marvel universe to a bad guy in DC universe with disappointing results. Final thought: I liked the movie….but I did not love the movie. My two daughters thought it was ok….but have no desire to own the movie.
