Want to know the best Woody Harrelson movies? How about the worst Woody Harrelson movies? Curious about Woody Harrelson’s box office grosses or which Woody Harrelson movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Woody Harrelson movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.
My oldest son has been requesting a Woody Harrelson (1961-) movie page for awhile now. Since one of his previous requests (Pixar vs DreamWorks) turned out to be one of my most popular pages…I figured I would finally do a page on Woody Harrelson. Woody Harrelson is an Academy Award®, Golden Globe®, Emmy® nominated actor. He has now been a star for over thirty years. Harrelson seems at home in any type of movie genre. My personal Top 5 Woody Harrelson performances would be his comedy Kingpin, his drama The Messenger, his sports movie White Men Can’t Jump, his role in The Hunger Games and his bad guy role in Out of the Furnace (this was an Oscar® worthy supporting role that got no love at all).
His IMDb page shows over 90 acting credits since 1978. This page will rank Woody Harrelson movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in theaters were not included in the rankings.

As indicated in Part 2 to my eyes your Woody offering was a very high-quality video that was quite exceptional so that with my own limited skills I found it very hard doing the fine-tuning whereas usually that is not the case. Listing virtually EVERYTHING pleasing makes the selection process meaningless to an extent; so I’ve done my best to pick my TOP faves here. Anyway the video deserves 99% for the pleasure it gave me; and you and The Big Boy agree on 4 of Woody’s best reviewed 6.

I have seen 6 of his films and of course have watched him in most if not all of his Cheers episodes as well as all episodes of the 1st True Detective series. The 6 films concerned are LA Story; Doc Hollywood; Indecent Proposal; Anger Management; No Country for Old Men; and Rampart which impressed me the most.
He’s continuing to keep busy because in the pipeline for him are (1) 2 movies at post production stage (2) one further one filming (3) and at pre-production stage yet another movie and a TV series called The Most Dangerous Man in America with Woody in the title role.
IMDB credits Woody with 28 acting awards and a whopping 92 nominations and he reportedly enjoys a current net worth of $65 million. That compares very well with the apparent net worth of each of his old Cheers main buddies:
Ted Danson $80 million
John Ratzenberger $80 million ***
Kelsey Grammer $60 million
Rhea Perlman [real-life Mrs Danny DeVito] $50 million
George Wendt $45 million
Kirstie Alley $40 million
Shelley Long $15 million
***lucrative cinematic voice role career in franchises like Toy Story/Cars/Finding Dory. I like him
Hi Bob, thanks for the review, generous rating (ooh), info and trivia, always appreciated. Happy you liked the posters and stills.
As you say he is a busy actor and now a respected Oscar nominated actor too. I would never have predicted that back in the 1990s. Well if rapper Mark Wahlberg can get respect in that town why not Woody?
4 of Woody’s films score 10 out of 10 from my sources – Catching Fire, The Thin Red Line, Three Billboards and No Country For Old Men.
3 more scored 9 out of 10 – The Messenger, The People vs Larry Flynt and War for the Planet of the Apes. There are several scoring 8 including Natural Born Killers, Hunger Games and Zombieland.
Topping the bill at IMDB is Three Billboards, no.1 at RT is No Country For Old Men.
“Well for six years during Cheers, I couldn’t get another job. So I was getting to the mindset of, ‘Wow, so this is it. I thought the career was just starting and apparently it’s just over.’ Fortunately then, I got a role in Doc Hollywood and then White Men Can’t Jump. Those I was doing during my hiatus from Cheers, and then Indecent Proposal came out literally the day after we wrapped Cheers.”
Woody on his daughter going to college – “It was one of the single most difficult experiences of my life, when it was time to separate and she walked off to the dorm and we drove away. I bawled my eyes out.”
HI STEVE
Thanks for the feedback including quotes.
As I have touched on previously on this page Woody’s contrasting convincing performances as the comic almost ‘half-wit’ in Cheers and his foul-mouthed brutal policemen In the TV series True Detective and especially Rampart on the big screen have displayed an acting range that in my experience few of the recognised mega stars could duplicate.
Keep safe.
Woody gets a video. Overall I have seen 53 of his movies. 37 of the ones listed here….not too bad. He has been a very busy actor since Cheers ended. Favorites include #25 Now You See Me, #22 Out of the Furnace….he is amazing in that one….I thought his performance should have at least gotten some Oscar buzz….it sadly did not. #13 Edge of 17…..he played a good teacher. #8 Zombieland…fun movie…and I liked the sequel as well. #2 Three Billboards…I actually thought his performance was better than Sam Rockwell’s in that one. Sam won the Oscar, Woody did get a nomination. I like some of his higher rated movies, just not favorties. Good video. Voted up. Shared.
Steve’s Woody video added to the page.
Hi Bruce, you’ve seen 53 of Woody’s films overall and 37 out of the 40 on the video, whoa! Impressive. He must be a favorite of yours. Let’s see I’ve seen… 26 of the 40, not too shabby.
He was scary in Out of the Furnace, friendly in Three Billboards, fun in the Zombieland films. In the 90s critics sneered but he has become quite a respected actor. Thanks again for the share, vote and comment, always appreciated.
1 Woody’s earlier TV persona was in complete contrast to some of his later big screen roles. In the Cheers TV series he played a not too bright, upright character who was polite and deferential to others especially females.
2 However in for example the 2011 cinematic film Rampart he was a foul-mouthed, racist womanising bully. It is interesting that he was once in line for the McConaughey role in A Time to Kill as both of them starred in the hit TV series True Detective of which the pair were joint executive producers and in which they made a brilliant and cohesive acting team.
3 I welcome this as another fine profile of a most unusual and versatile actor. Well done WH.
Thanks for the thoughts on Woody, Bob. Sorry that this comment escaped me for so long. I agree he has come a long way since Cheers. I think he is getting better and better as time progresses. He and MM are friends. I imagine they might make another movie together. Good stuff. Wow three plus years since you did this comment…how is that possible?
