Woody Strode Movies

Want to know the best Woody Strode movies?  How about the worst Woody Strode movies?  Curious about Woody Strode box office grosses or which Woody Strode movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Woody Strode movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which got the worst reviews? Well, you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

Woody Strode (1914-1994) was an American actor.  Strode was a decathlete and football star who was one of the first Black American players in the National Football League in the postwar era. His IMDb page shows over 91 acting credits from 1941 to 1995. This page will rank Woody Strode movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. To do well in the rankings, a movie needed to do well at the box office, be liked by both critics and audiences and earn some award recognition.  Some of his movies that do not appear to have been in North American theaters were not included.  This page comes from a request by UMR Hall of Famer – Mike.

  • Sort Woody Strode movies by co-stars of his movies.
  • Sort Woody Strode movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort Woody Strode movies by yearly domestic box office rank
  • Sort Woody Strode movies how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie.
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations each Woody Strode movie received and how many Oscar® wins each Woody Strode movie won.
  • Sort Woody Strode movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score.  UMR Score puts box office, reviews, and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

    1. Hey Dan. Interesting that you’re watching one of his movies, that one escaped our table. I could find no information on box office at all. I can’t imagine it’s a classic, based on its low ratings. Thanks for sharing, let us know how you liked it.

      1. Never finished it, it was about a half hour in and it got stuck and I couldn’t get it to advance after cleaning it a few times. Part of a 10 film dud set I got for $3.98 from Amazon of crime films. One was in Italian with no subtitles.

  1. I tried to publish a comment on this page yesterday more than once and my comment never appeared. I will try again.

I have seen 11 Woody Strode movies.

The HIGHEST rated movie I have seen is Spartacus.

The highest rated movie I have NOT seen is Star Spangled Rhythm.

The LOWEST rated movie I have seen is Two Rode Together

    Favourite Woody Strode Movies:

    Spartacus
    The Professionals
Once Upon a Time in the West
    No Time For Love
    Pork Chop Hill
    The Last Voyage
    Two Rode Together

Other Woody Strode Movies I Have Seen:

    The Ten Commandments
    Demetrios and the Gladiators
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
    Sergeant Rutledge

    1. Hey flora. Sorry you’re having issues leaving comment, not sure what was going wrong. Glad you were able to finally get to comment in. Tally count: 11 for you nine for me. I’ve seen five of your favorites, the first three you mention would be favorites of mine as well. The 10 Commandments not on your favorites list? That’s going to crush Steve…..lol. I would think the man who shot liberty valance also not in your favor it will surprise lots of people. As always I greatly appreciate your feedback. Good stuff!

  2. Woody Strode, good subject, memorable in films like Spartacus and The Professionals.

I’ve seen 18 of the 42 films on the chart. Favorites are – Spartacus, The Professionals, The Ten Commandments, Demetrius and the Gladiators, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The Quick and the Dead, The Cotton Club and Once Upon a Time in the West.

I’m Spartacus! tops the charts, as it should. Beaten at the box office by Moses and The Ten Commandments.

    Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve. Thanks for checking out our woody page. Movie count; 18 for you, 11 for Flora and nine for me. I have seen all of your favorites and I’m right there with you. Although it has been a very long time since watching the cotton club. Lots of history in that movie. It’s been so long since I’ve watch the 10 Commandments I don’t even remember his part in the movie. I guess I need to rewatch it. Wow, You picking Spartacus over the 10 Commandments I didn’t see that coming. Good stuff as always.

  3. You see there are still people on the Oracle of Bacon Top 1000 list you haven’t done. Woody Strode is # 537 on the 2020 Oracle of Bacon list. He has less connections and less Oscar winners then Chris Penn who is ranked below him on the list. These are the actors on the 2020 list he has appeared with.

    1. Hey Dan. Oh I’m sure there are lots of the top Oracle 1000 I don’t have pages on. I am very surprised what he’s at high on the list. Looks like a two-way tie for most frequent Oracle costar – Three movies with John Carradine and three movies with Jack Palance. Weird, I was just watching Palance’s Oscar speech earlier today. Looking at the second list, 37 Oscar-winning costars is pretty stout. And then some legends in that list with John Wayne, James Stewart, Leonardo DiCaprio, Paul Newman, Gene Hackman, and Chuck Heston.
